Netflix has officially pulled back the curtain on Gandhari, a gripping new thriller-drama slated for a 2026 release, and the project promises to be one of the streamer’s most intense Indian originals yet. Headlined by Taapsee Pannu, the film blends raw emotion, high-stakes action, and myth-infused mystery, anchored by the unyielding resolve of a mother pushed to her limits.
The story of Gandhari unfolds after a woman’s young daughter is abducted from a crowded railway station, an event that shatters her world. As if the trauma were not enough, the protagonist survives a brutal attack that leaves her temporarily blind. What follows is a harrowing journey through grief, fear, and resilience, as she confronts a sinister child-trafficking network operating beneath the surface of a town steeped in shape-shifters and ancient lore. As the narrative progresses, the mother transforms into a near-mythic force of vengeance, determined to rescue her child and save other lost children before they vanish forever.
Directed by Devashish Makhija, known for his unflinching storytelling and atmospheric narratives, Gandhari is written and produced by Kanika Dhillon. The film brings together a formidable ensemble cast that includes Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht, and Jatin Sarna, each expected to add depth and intensity to the dark, layered world of the film.
