The Kerala Story has been making headlines ever since its release. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently discussed the factors contributing to the success of The Kerala Story.

EXCLUSIVE: Taran Adarsh analyses the factors behind the success of The Kerala Story; says, “In terms of economics, it’s a lottery”

In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, talking about the factors that led to the success of The Kerala Story, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “It is because of word of mouth also. Yes, our honourable Prime Minister did comment on it, I am not denying that, but somewhere down the line there has to be an endorsement from the common man who is digging into his pockets, taking out his wallet and paying money at the ticket counter. That is more important. I think somewhere down the line, the audience has come in, somewhere down the line people are going to the cinema halls, not just in India, across the globe and I think that is why the film is working.”

Further sharing his thoughts on the economics of the film, Taran asserted, “In terms of economics, it’s a lottery. In terms of numbers, it’s a huge profit margin. It’s a very small budget film. I don’t think the cost, excluding P&A, should be more than Rs 20 crores or maybe I am wrong. This question could be best answered by Vipul Shah (Vipul Amrutlal Shah: Film producer). But I feel in my experience not more than Rs 20 crores.”

“I feel when Rs 150 (crores) you have already crossed today and you are the second highest film, that itself is a huge and humongous achievement,” he added.

With Adah Sharma playing the role of Shalini Unnikrishnan, The Kerala Story is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film portrays the story of young girls from Kerala who are manipulated into converting their religion and are forcibly made to join the ISIS. While the film is said to be based on true events, a lot of allegations are being made against the film because of its claims. The film released in India on May 5, 2023.
