EXCLUSIVE: Sonu Nigam says Anu Malik would bully him in his initial days: “I even learnt a lot from him, he is my mentor” : Bollywood News

One of the biggest singing sensations Sonu Nigam has worked with several music directors in the film industry. Hailed has one of the most prolific singers for several decades, his journey in the industry has been pioneered by music director Anu Malik, who Nigam considers as his mentor. However, the singer recently said that though Malik is his ‘guruji’, he also bullied him a lot.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sonu said in Hindi, “Initially, I used to get scared of him. When I was new in the industry, he used to bully me, in the sense that he was older than me, and had a lot of experience. I met him when I was 14 years old, at a competition which I won. That time he had said, ‘Get him to me when he grows up.’"

He then went on to narrate how he learnt to deal with him and eventually learnt a lot from him. “When I came to Mumbai, my father and I went to see him. Phir aahista aahista main samajh gaya k inn se deal kaise karna hai. Jitna daboge utna dabaenge. Inke barabar ka aggression la k dikhao. Fir unse seekha humney. Anuji humare guruji hai. (So, when I first came to Mumbai, I went to him with my father. But I started working with him much later. So, he was very intimidating at that time. Then slowly I understood how to deal with him. The more you will go in a corner, the more you will be cornered. I will have to be as aggressive as him. Then I learned from him. Anuji is my guruji.) (The more you will go in a corner, the more you will be cornered). I even learnt a lot from him, he is my guruji,” he added.

Sonu Nigam said that it is Anu Malik who utilised his voice to its full potential. They collaborated on several popular chartbusters including the entire album of Refugee, ‘Tera Rang Balle Balle’ from Soldier, ‘Aate Jaate Jo Milta Hai’ from Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, ‘What Is Mobile Number’ from Haseena Maan Jaayegi, ‘Tu Hawa Hai’ from Fiza, ‘Milne Se Darta Hai Dil’ from Badal, ‘Chori Chori’ from Om Jai Jagadish and ‘Sau Dard’ from Jaan-E-Mann.
