Karan Vyas is one of the talented writers in film industry who is gradually making his mark in Bollywood. He has written dialogues for Pratik Gandhi starrer Scam 1992, Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo and is currently working on Scam 2. In a recent interview, the dialogue writer shed light on his exciting collaboration with acclaimed director Hansal Mehta for Netflix series Scoop that released on June 2, 2023, starring Karishma Tanna.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Karan Vyas opened up on the response Scoop has been receiving so far. He said, “It's actually very, very good. It's amazing. It's almost on the lines of what the response was for Scam 1992. Getting that kind of a response for Scam 1992 at that point of time was very new to me. But now it's been three years. So again, receiving the same sort of love for another web series, I'm feeling like, okay, it's all again the first time and I'm very, very excited, very, very thankful to the entire team and Netflix for making the show and making me part of the show, trusting me on my process. I'm really happy with amazing response I'm getting for it.”
When asked what the brief was given to him by Hansal Mehta for Scoop, Karan stated, “Scoop was the first show I signed after Scam 1992. Sir was quite clear within a month or so that this is the next show he wants to make and immediately I was on board.”
Karan further revealed why Hansal Mehta hired him for Scoop. He said, “There were two reasons that we had, I have jelled well during writing of Scam 1992. The second reason was that Scoop also had required lot of authentic Gujarati background and somehow with Scam we have hit that sweet spot of cracking that authentic Gujarati family and the meal and everything. Sir was quite keen on retaining that or maybe taken to the next level. So that was the reason that I was approached for Scoop.”
Talking about the show, Karan asserted, “Scoop was a very, very different and challenging show. Of course, it was on print media, the journalism, crime, courtroom drama, underworld and police. So, there were a lot of, different, different worlds we were trying to tap in into one particular show. So, it was very challenging, and he told me to use my best judgment. He gave me all the freedom. So, I went in with the couple of drafts. It took us time to find the right soul for all the characters. They are very different. Plus, this is something very new I was doing. I am not very used to writing this kind of a show before which required lots and lots of authenticity and gravitas and, emotional depth and everything. So, it was very challenging for me. But Sir has an immense confidence in me and he helped me a lot in understanding all these characters. And then after a couple of draft by the episode two or three, I actually got each and every character sorted and I went ahead. So, it was a very challenging, very satisfying, amazing process and lots of brief was given to me by Hansal Sir and Brinmay and they really believed in me. And that's how with the teamwork, whatever happened has happened and I'm very happy.”
For the unversed, Scoop is a six episodes series that revolves around a spine-chilling murder case and uncovers a web involving the media, underworld and the Mumbai Police.
