In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, actors Pankaj Kapur and Saurabh Shukla reflected on how relationships evolve with age and why love often becomes deeper and more meaningful over time, with regards to their latest film Jab Khuli Kitaab.
Speaking about how love changes as people grow older, Saurabh Shukla explained that the core emotion does not really change, but the way people understand it does. “Love basically remains love. Right? But its reasoning... changes. So I feel that as you mature, that's why they say that you know your love also matures,” he said.
Shukla also touched upon the idea that people themselves keep evolving, which makes long-term relationships an ongoing journey of rediscovery. According to him, understanding this change in one another is an important part of sustaining love.
Reflecting on the essence of relationships, he emphasised that love eventually becomes less about expectations and more about generosity. “Not demanding, but giving... giving,” he said, describing what he believes is the real crux of relationships.
The conversation highlighted how Jab Khuli Kitaab explores mature companionship and emotional growth, focusing on how love evolves with time, patience and understanding. Through their discussion, the actors also spoke about the changing nature of storytelling in cinema and how films today are increasingly exploring deeper emotional themes such as love in later stages of life.
