EXCLUSIVE: Ranveer Singh reveals why he considers Band Baaja Baaraat and Simmba to be his best performances till date

Ahead of the release of the film, in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Ranveer Singh spoke about what he thinks is his best performance so far. “If you ask me what is my best performance so far, I would still say Band Baaja Baaraat or I would say Simmba, because that is difficult. I would give maximum points to that kind of performance where you are in a proper hardcore mainstream masala film, it's quite high pitched, front footed yet you are able to achieve that balance and make it authentic. So it is a fine line to walk when one is pitching the character of Sangram Bhalerao. Tricky territory but if you do it effectively then maximum points for you. It's like, when you are batting on a tricky surface and you score there, you get extra points for that. So for me Simmba, Band Baaja Baaraat perhaps I have a soft spot as it was the first one. But lots of people have different choices. Somebody says Khilji, somebody says Gully Boy, somebody says Kapil Dev, some say Jayeshbhai Jordaar. But I have to say, when I saw the film and I have to be objective about it, I can say it opened up a new facet of my repertoire, a new dimension of me as a performer, new expressions, new body language, new voice, new energy, new being. Something new that I have not even seen myself do. I was very pleased and refreshed to see that and I am very pleased that it is that way because that is my constant endeavour to time after time create characters that are starkly and distinctively different from something you have done before and especially the last film. Audience should be surprised from one film to the other."

"If you look at the last 4-5 overs, one is Khilji, then Simmba, then Gully Boy, Kapil Dev, and then Jayeshbhai. To have my filmography shape this way is precisely how I would have liked it to be and it's panning out that way and I am grateful for the opportunities and I am happy it is being recognized," he added.

A hilarious satire on society - Jayeshbhai Jordaar, produced by Maneesh Sharma, also stars Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey, who debuts on Bollywood’s big screen opposite Ranveer. The film has been directed by debutant Divyang Thakkar and is releasing worldwide on May 13, 2022.
