EXCLUSIVE: Mushtaq Khan recalls how Salim Khan helped him get his break in Bollywood; opens up about his first meeting with “hot director” Mahesh Bhatt : Bollywood News

Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, who was recently seen in the film Gadar 2, has opened up about his long association with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. Khan revealed that it was Salim Khan who had recommended him to Bhatt for a film.

"I was doing plays when I first came to Mumbai," Khan told Bollywood Hungama. "It was then that Salim Khan saw me perform and called me over. He was very impressed with my work and told me that he had recommended my name to Mahesh Bhatt for a film."

Khan said that he was initially hesitant to meet Bhatt, as he was a "hot director" at the time and there was a long queue of actors waiting to meet him. However, he eventually plucked up the courage and introduced himself to Bhatt, who was initially quite curt with him.

"He told me that he was busy with shooting and asked me to meet his brother Mukesh Bhatt and Robin Bhatt," Khan said. "They asked me for my number and said they would call me if something came up."

Interestingly, Khan did not even have a landline at the time, so he would pay his grocery shop one rupee for every call they received on his behalf. After about 15 days, he got the call from Bhatt and that's how he got the role in Kabzaa.

Khan went on to add that after that Mahesh Bhatt never left him as the duo worked together on multiple projects such as work Swayam, Gunah, Aashiqui, Junoon, Sadak, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi, Gumrah, and more.
