Karan Johar recently recalled his mother Hiroo Yash Johar's reaction to his film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama. Johar said that his mother was silent after watching the film and didn't say anything for a week. When she finally spoke, she asked him why he had to be so "extreme" with the subject matter.

KJo recalled, "She was silent after KANK. She walked out and didn't say anything. One week later, she asked me, ‘Can you explain why you had to be so extreme with the subject?’ I said it's my belief. She said I won't say anything. But when I saw it, I got very scared. That's what she said. She's very honest with me."

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was a controversial film when it was released in 2006. The film dealt with the topic of extramarital affairs, which was a taboo subject at the time. The film was a critical success, but it also received some negative reactions from viewers.

Johar said that his mother is his "conscience" and his "biggest critic." He said that she is always honest with him and that he still respects her opinion, even though he is now 51 years old. In the light-hearted conversation, he even called her his “Dhanlakshmi.” For the unversed, Dhanlakshmi is a character in Karan’s latest film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani played by Jaya Bachchan.
