Actor-director-writer Saurabh Shukla who will next be seen acting in Bala, Aadhaar, Pagalpanti, Raja Sahab, and Aaj Kal, has co-written scripts like Satya (with Anurag Kashyap and Mithya (with Rajat Kapoor) and written and directed movies like Pappu Can’t Dance and Saala I M 24, is all sought to wield his directorial baton again. Buzz is that he has approached Kajol Devgn and Irrfan Khan for his social, slice-of-life drama (produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak) and they are in talks for the same.
Says a trade source, “The project is in an extremely preliminary stage. Saurabh has narrated a concept to Irrfan and Kajol and both have liked it. It’s a slice-of-life story with a streak of humour and revolving around a social issue. It’s about how a modern, city-based couple tackle certain issues and balance their marriage. If Irrfan and Kajol do give their nod to the movie, it would be their first movie together and the actor’s second film after Angrezi Medium, since recovering from his medical condition in United Kingdom. Irrfan is currently in Mumbai as he was spotted at the airport last week and if he has time, Saurabh’s will be on the scripts that he will hear. Kajol and Irrfan are expected to have a narration soon on the same. Irrfan and Kumar Mangat have worked together in Sunday (produced by Pathak) and share a comfortable rapport. Apparently, he pitched Shukla’s movie to Irrfan and Kajol.”
When asked about it, Saurabh Shukla is extremely reluctant to talk. He says, “As an actor there are a few films of mine which are coming but with regards to my directorial, all I can say is no comments (about the Kajol-Irrfan project) right now. It’s too early talk about anything, including who I have pitched my script to.”
At the moment, the actor-director-writer doesn’t want to commit on anything connected to the movie – including the story and subject too. “I am always writing stories which are yet to be told and I don’t know which one will be made and when,” he smiles.
Last week, Irrfan Khan returned to India after undergoing surgery in London. He was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour last year and has undergone treatment in the UK since then. He has completed the shoot of Homi Adjania’s Angrezi Medium, co-starring Radhika Madan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
