Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali, has emerged as a highly anticipated cinematic venture of the year. With Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra at the helm, this Window Seat Films’ creation promises to unveil the enigmatic tale of the legendary figure, Amar Singh Chamkila, hailed as the 'Elvis of Punjab'. In a recent conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker opened up about his upcoming directorial, casting Diljit and Parineeti and the similarities with the late Sidhu Moosewala.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, when the singers Amar Singh Chamkila and Sidhu Moosewala were compared, Imtiaz responded, “The songs that I have heard of Sidhu Moosewala are very different in texture from Chamkila, but one thing is common that they were both extremely popular in the grassroots and they were very influential and they did talk about what was happening around them. So those were the common things.”

Furthermore, Imtiaz revealed that Chamila was an audience favourite and could never refuse to perform. The filmmaker said, “Chamkila was a slave of his audience. He wanted to always please his audience. He could never refuse his audience. This is why he ended up doing more than 365 shows in one year and sometimes these shows were not happening at the same venue. He had to travel to different villages to do these.”

The film is produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films. Amar Singh Chamkila is premiering April 12, on Netflix.
