The Imtiaz Ali directorial, Amar Singh Chamkila has become one of the most anticipated film releases this year. Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead, this Window Seat Films’ production, is the untold true story about the greatest singer of his time, the highest record-selling artist- Amar Singh Chamkila, also fondly known as the ‘Elvis of Punjab’. Now, the makers have dropped a new poster of the film.
On Friday, Netflix shared a new poster of Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra with a caption that read, “Amarjyot and Chamkila: The couple that took Punjab by a storm with their music! Amar Singh Chamkila, releasing on April 12, only on Netflix!”

A day ago, after the release of the first song ‘Ishq Mitaye’, the second song ‘Naram Kaalja’ was released. The song is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of Chamkila’s popularity amongst women audience! With music by the maestro AR Rahman, and lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil, the song has been sung by Alka Yagnik, Richa Sharma, Pooja Tiwari, and Yashika Sikka.
It gives an expression to the unbridled “female gaze” showcasing the fan frenzy that Chamkila's music created amongst women of all ages. Such was his craze amongst them that they would throng the terraces of the houses around his Akhadaas (live music performances in villages) in droves and at times their numbers would be so high that the roofs would cave in, a fact that earned Chamkila the title – Kotha Dhau Kalakaar (the Roof Breaker)!!

The film is produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films. Amar Singh Chamkila is premiering April 12, on Netflix.
