EXCLUSIVE: Chitrangada Satarupa on sharing her name with Chitrangda Singh: “I thought I was the only Chitrangada… I get tagged in her posts by mistake. She’s walking the ramp but I am tagged in that post!”

Chitrangada Satarupa has done some fine work in Hindi and Bengali cinema and now she’s all set to show her acting prowess in Main Actor Nahin Hoon, co-starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Interestingly, there’s already an established actress in the industry with the same name – Chitrangda Singh. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Chitrangada Satarupa opened up about this aspect.

Chitrangada Satarupa said, “My mother always used to say that there’s no other girl named Chitrangada in the world. Meanwhile, when I was a school-going girl, I opened up a magazine one day. It featured an article on Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005). The actress's face was also published and I remarked that she’s such a beautiful woman. Then I read her name and got sad (laughs). I told my mother, ‘Ma, I thought I am the only Chitrangada’!”

Chitrangada then said on a serious note, “However, I always admired her for the character she played in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. It’s such a cult, amazing film.”

When asked about sharing her name with Chitrangda Singh, she replied, “There are so many people with similar names. There are so many Jennifer’s in Hollywood (laughs).”

We also reminded her that Aditya Kriplani, the director of Main Actor Nahin Hoon, shares his name with Aditya Dhar of Dhurandhar fame. She agreed and added, “Yes, there’s also Aditya Chopra, Aditya Roy Kapur, etc. So, we have gone past that phase of having an actor of one name. I do get tagged a lot of times in Chitrangda’s posts by mistake. She’s walking the ramp, but I am tagged in that post (laughs)!”

Chitrangada Satarupa also said that the spelling of her name is different from that of Chitrangda Singh, “There’s an extra ‘A’ in my spelling; she doesn’t have that. Uss ‘A’ ki wajah se hum bach gaye! You have the internet now and you’ll find a person with another name. Aap kuch nahin kar sakte.”

Finally, has Chitrangada Satarupa ever met Chitrangda Singh? She revealed, “No, but it’ll be interesting to meet her for sure.”
