Renowned stylist Sukriti Grover recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, unveiling the behind-the-scenes magic of Kriti Sanon's appearance in the film Teri Baaton Me Aisa Uljha Jiya. In the interview, Grover delved into the intricacies of crafting Sanon's character look, shedding light on the creative process and inspiration behind the styling choices. With meticulous attention to detail, Grover curated ensembles that not only captured the essence of the character but also resonated with the audience on an emotional level.
In the interview, when asked about the process of conceptualizing Kriti Sanon's looks for Teri Baaton Me Aisa Uljha Jiya, Sukriti Grover revealed, “When we conceptualized Kriti's looks for Teri Baaton Me Aisa Uljha Jiya, we had to consider the unique premise of her character being a robot. However, despite this, she needed to exude charisma and charm as soon as she entered the room. Her look had to reflect an urban vibe, given her transition from America to India within the film's narrative. Thus, for both parts of the film, her looks had to blend urban and contemporary elements seamlessly. We opted for clean, minimal silhouettes to maintain the essence of her robotic persona while ensuring her attractiveness remained intact. The key was striking a balance between urban and contemporary aesthetics throughout her wardrobe”.
Further we asked her if she faced any challenges at the sets of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya to which in response Sukriti Grover revealed that initially, they didn't encounter many obstacles. However, the main challenge stemmed from portraying Kriti's character as a robot while ensuring she remained attractive, believable, and beautiful. Grover explained that numerous discussions with the creative team were necessary regarding Kriti's looks, dresses, makeup, and hairstyles. They conducted numerous look tests to strike a balance between Kriti's portrayal as a visually appealing girl and her character as a robot. Maintaining this delicate equilibrium between the two aspects of Kriti's character proved to be the primary challenge throughout the styling process.
Sukriti Grover also shared some delightful moments from the sets, highlighting the enjoyable experiences during the shooting of the song ‘Akhiyan Gulab’ with Shahid and Kriti. Set against the backdrop of a beach, the shooting had a refreshing vibe accompanied by lively choreography, creating a fun-filled atmosphere. Additionally, Grover mentioned the title track's shoot was equally enjoyable, with its unique choreography adding to the excitement. She emphasized that the creative processes behind these moments were filled with joy and camaraderie, making the overall experience on set truly memorable.
When asked about maintaining Kriti Sanon's style versatility and authenticity across various events and appearances, Sukriti Grover emphasized the importance of Kriti's comfort and personal preference. Grover explained, “Once Kriti feels comfortable in a particular outfit, it naturally reflects her personality and style”. During promotions, Grover mentioned, “The need to strike a balance between Kriti and Shahid's looks. If Shahid opted for a casual style, we ensured Kriti's styling complemented that vibe. Similarly, for chat shows and interviews, Kriti's outfits were curated to reflect her casual and authentic self, staying true to her personality”.
When asked for advice to aspiring stylists aiming for success in the fashion and film industry, Sukriti Grover highlighted that styling is an art, regardless of whether people appreciate it or not. She emphasized that not everyone will love every style, as opinions differ. However, Grover stressed the importance of stepping out of one's comfort zone, working hard, and being patient. In simple terms, she encouraged aspiring stylists to embrace the artistic nature of styling, stay open to criticism, work diligently, and remain patient as they pursue their goals in the industry.
