EXCLUSIVE: Benedict Wong talks about Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff’s parallel realities in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness – ‘That’s where all the trouble lies’

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

While a lot unravels in the film, the trailer showcases Benedict Wong and Wanda Maximoff coming together. But, what happens when Sorcerer Supreme and one of the most powerful Avengers bring together their mystical powers? "Well, you'll just have to wait and see with that," tells Benedict Wong to Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive interview. "It's been great the character progression when we talk about Wong and how he started off six years ago as the no-nonsense librarian and now he's the no-nonsense Sorcerer Supreme standing toe-to-toe with Doctor Strange. This film now picks up from where WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home left, and it's converging all together with the spell that has been cast, and the cracks through the parallel realities. You now have all these characters seeping out. So that's where all the trouble lies."

Talking about some of the moments to watch out for in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Benedict adds, "There are so many moments. I think many of the journalists have watched 20 minutes and they just can't, can't wait for more. I mean, we certainly hit the ground running when we watch this film. And, you know, if ever there were any seatbelts, fasten them, because it's such a roller coaster ride and fans, horror fans, superhero fans will be happy."

Benedict Wong is excited to bring Wong back and explore him further now that he is Sorcerer Supreme. “I had no idea this was going to happen to Wong,” says the actor. “He started off as the librarian, reading all kinds of books on the mystic arts. And now that he’s picked up the gauntlet to become the Sorcerer Supreme, there’s such a heavy level of responsibility in terms of how he’s teaching his students. I’m fascinated to see where we actually go next with this.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Sheila Atim, Adam Hugill with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll, Scott Derrickson, and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers, with Mitch Bell and Richie Palmer as co-producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron, who recently served as head writer and executive producer on Marvel Studios’ Loki series for Disney+.
