Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty was in Los Angeles, USA from where he spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama about his upcoming Bengali film, Kabuliwala produced by Jio Studios and SVF Entertainment. The actor has had a long, illustrious career and has tasted superstardom, which few actors have. Last year, when the Hindi film industry was going through a tough phase, he stated in an interview, “Bollywood will come out roaring. There should be a focus on mass entertainers.”
This year, thankfully, the industry listened to Mithun’s advice. Most of the blockbusters had supreme mass appeals and did unimaginable numbers.
We asked Mithun Chakraborty to comment on this aspect. He said, “In today’s times, superstar banna khatam ho gaya hai. Superstar jo jo bane hai, that was thanks to the single screens. Be it Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, etc; they became superstars thanks to the single screens and hence, their career has been a long one. Nowadays, 2-3 din ka business hota hai film ka and it doesn’t let you become a superstar. I wonder why. Hence, you have to keep on trying.”
Mithun Chakraborty further said, “Also, Bollywood ke purana masala ko agar aap thali mein acchi tarike se parsoge, wohi chalegi. All the films that worked off late are a case of puraana khaana acchi thali mein parosna. Even in Hollywood, it’s the same case. The scale has gone many notches higher, as seen in films like The Avengers. The heroes are bigger and so are the villains. Once in a while, a hatke film also becomes successful in all industries. Projapati is one such example.”
