EXCLUSIVE: “Alia Bhatt has spoken through her eyes” – reveals Sanjay Leela Bhansali on particular scene where he didn’t yell CUT : Bollywood News

Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are basking in the glory of Gangubai Kathiawadi which is receiving accolades from all across – audience, critics and result that is being witnessed at the box office. Finding that command over the body language, the art and beyond was a task but Bhansali says Alia Bhatt had adapted to it effortlessly.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, when asked about the importance of the body language which was conveyed through Alia Bhatt’s character Gangubai and Vijay Raaz’ Raziabai and every other character, Bhansali says, “Alia who walks like a brothel madam and talks like her, it’s a very important part of a good actor. When an actor knows how to use a body, it conveys half of things that you want to say beyond words.”

He adds, “Alia has spoken through her eyes in the forefront, with the eyes that are reaching out vulnerable sometimes, shining sometimes, manipulating. How Ajay Devgn uses the glasses or the way he stands; he is a powerful man. Every performance was spectacular as they knew their body in this particular case in a certain way and this is how the body & eyes are used.”

Recalling the drunken scene in the lane, Bhansali reveals, “Alia’s drunken scene in the lane when she (Gangubai) is shouting in the colony at the night, it’s such a great moment for me in terms of what an actor did in 2 takes. I said ‘No Alia, there’s something that’s missing! I am still not finding the anger, what all you’ve gone through, in her drunken state and you have to express it.’ Then, she went for it and I didn’t say cut. That shot is another one minute long from the actual footage that we’ve shot. That’s what it is – look at the body language, look at the intoxicated movement of the body and yet, the anger flowing out.”

“These are all magic moments when an actor finds their body language; which is difficult at times,” he concludes.

Gangubai Kathiawadi stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role, Ajay Devgb in special appearance with Seema Pahwa and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles. Shantanu Maheshwari makes his Bollywood debut and is love interest of Alia Bhatt. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film released on 25^th February, 2022.
