Deepika Padukone on international red carpets is always a risky affair. Why you ask? Well for the starters, the lady does not always dress to impress and secondly because she is still a little new to the whole ball game and hence more susceptible to criticism. But the leggy lass still manages to hold her ground despite all the controversies. So, like last year, this year too the Padmaavat star was invited to one of the most prestigious international events, The Met Gala 2018. The theme this year was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. What was expected from the high profile celebrities was their interpretation of religious imagery and the Catholic church. While celebs opted for various headgears, crosses etc...Deepika wore a red Prabal Gurung gown and went for a pulled back wet look for her hair. While the theme clearly mentioned heavenly bodies and Catholic imagination, the colour red itself is a devil’s colour so we really don't know what Deepika and her stylist wanted to achieve.
According to designer Prabal Gurung and the stylist, Deepika’s Atelier red gown was inspired by the choice robes of holy cardinals, both in structure and hue. But without accesories or props, this reference was clearly missed by masses and her fans. Instagram has already branded the look as 'out of theme’. While a few are applauding DP for her natural grace and poise, most people are upset with her outing only because it looks so out of sync from the theme. Her hair and make up does not please and her fans are urging her to fire her stylist. This is not the first time that Deepika is exposed to this kind of critisicm but again, who said being a high profile celebrity was an easy job?
Most popular criticism was, “Gurllll do u even know the theme....” to calling out her stylist Shaleena Nathani. One comment read, “she'll be in the worst dressed list again. Congrats @shaleenanathani u did it again. She is an ethereal beauty but you're fixed on making to every worst dressed list ever.” Popular massy opinion on the net so far was though DP looks stunning, this is a normal red carpet look and does not go with the theme of Met Gala 2018 at all. Disappointed fans even remarked that the make up and hair sported by the diva did not do justice to her inherent good looks, made her look all oiled up and were repetitive. What do you think?
