Campus Beats creator Palki Malhotra on highlighting situationships on the show, “It was essential for us to highlight it, especially when no one was talking about it”

Palki Malhotra stressed on the need of exploring subjects which resonates with the youth audience, specifically on situationships.

Creative director and producer Palki Malhotra, best known for creating shows like Dil Mill Gayye and Dil Dostii Dance, recently added one more feather to her cap with Amazon miniTV's Campus Beats. The show highlights friendship, love stories, a murder mystery and the recent Gen Z way of ‘situationships' between youngsters today, which sums up the show to be the perfect package of a youth-oriented drama.

Shantanu Maheshwari (Ishaan) and Shruti Sinha's (Netra) situationship on Campus Beats was a much-loved plotline by the show's youth audience. Speaking about the need to highlight it via the show, Campus Beats creator Palki Malhotra shared,"Situationship is the reality of today. Not that it did not exist earlier; it did, but it was essential for us to highlight it, especially at a point when no one was talking about it. Normally, when we do romance or talk about relationships, or when we talk about boys and girls feeling something for each other, we instantly jump into the word relationships. Earlier, there used to be a time when there was a significant amount of travel from the phase of like to love. It used to be 'I like you' and today 'I love you'. But today, there is a midpoint where people today have stationed themselves somewhere between like and love. Sometimes, when they are confused, unsure, or very sure of not wanting to take things forward, or they feel the same for each other, that is situationship. I know a lot of people going through this".

Palki elaborated, "Through Campus Beats, we needed to tell people that it was not essential for us to give names or labels to what we felt. I think the label 'situationship' stemmed because there was uncertainty about certain things that one felt and did not know. Some genius thought about this and labelled it a situationship. It was extremely important for us to talk about it on the show because I see a lot of people in it, and it's okay to be in a situation like this because it's a difficult world. It's a world where we first need to know ourselves better before committing ourselves to anyone. Sometimes commitment is great, and for some people, it is not. So, it was very important for us to normalise it through Campus Beats".
