Not too long ago, we had reported about Boney Kapoor reminiscing about his wife and India’s first female superstar Sridevi on social media. On the day of her fifth death anniversary, Boney shared several posts as a tribute to his late wife, which also included a video from India Today’s Woman Summit & Awards wherein the actress was a chief guest. The filmmaker posted two video clips wherein he opened up about his love story with Sridevi. While in the first video he recalled his first meeting with the actress, in the second one, he spoke about how he gradually fell in love with her and how he wooed her to be his wife.
In the second video clip posted by Boney Kapoor, he opened up about his experience of shooting with Sridevi in their first venture together, Mr. India wherein he ensured that the actress got everything she wanted. He said, “I wanted her to be comfortable and that she gets everything she wants and even more. Made sure she had the best makeup room, costumes. In fact, for that film we had 3 costume designers - one was hers with Leena Daru and Shalini”. Interrupting him, Sridevi added, “It was all very well planned.”
Her statement everyone in splits, as Boney continued, “With every meeting, shooting schedule and I was more affected by her. I was married then and I had confessed to my ex-wife that I was in love with her. I couldn't hold myself back. At every given opportunity, I wanted her to feel that there is somebody who is concerned for her, who is there for her. After her mother, I wanted to be the only person who is there for her. “

He also recalled an incident wherein he flew internationally just to be with her whilst she was shooting for the Yash Chopra film Chandni (1989 - starring Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna). “I followed her while she was shooting for Chandni in Switzerland. With some excuse, I used to be there. Yash Chopra had done a film with Anil, so I had reasons to be there but my actual reason was to see her and be with her. And gradually, somewhere she saw persistent. She realized I was sincere and I was not looking... for... (as he fumbled for a word someone prompted- ‘for a fling’) “I did not want to use this word,” he added.
He further expressed how he was completely in love with her, later adding that it was his concern and care for her that won her over. “When she lost her father, I was there at the airport to pick her up. I think it was these small things made an impact on her,” he concluded.
