2023 turned out to be one of the best years for Bollywood. It saw some of the biggest blockbusters in the form of Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan and Animal, along with some successful mid-size and smaller budget films as well. After such a remarkable year, all eyes are now fixed on 2024, which is also expected to keep the flag of Hindi cinema high. Here is Bollywood Hungama’s list of Top 10 Most Awaited Films of 2024.
Fighter
Director Siddharth Anand’s Fighter is keenly awaited for more than one reason. This is his next film after the super successful Pathaan, which helped Shah Rukh Khan bounce back to his winning ways. It is touted to be India’s first aerial action film and boasts some terrific action and mid-air stunt scenes. The film’s promotional material has also indicated that it is also high on patriotism.
Lastly, Fighter sees Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starring together for the first time. Their chemistry from the songs released so far has been electrifying. The movie also sees veteran star Anil Kapoor in a pivotal role.
Soorarai Pottru Remake
The major reason why there are expectations from this film is that it’s a remake of the acclaimed and successful Tamil film Soorarai Pottru. The movie, which starred Suriya in the lead and was directed by Sudha Kongara, told the story of a man from a village who wishes to launch his own airline service, but is forced to battle several obstacles and challenges. It will be very interesting to see Akshay Kumar play that character in the remake, which will be directed by the same director. The movie also stars Radhika Madan and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has been in the news ever since it was announced through an interesting and intriguing announcement video. The film is a two-hero project which is rare in today’s times in Bollywood. Plus, those two actors are mass favourite action entertainers Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. The promotional material made it clear that the film will feature international level action and stunts. It also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist.
The title Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also brings an instant recall value as a film of the same name by the same production house Pooja Entertainment was made back in 1998 starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda.
Chandu Champion
Director Kabir Khan’s 83 wasn’t a major success at the box office, but the film received tremendous appreciation for its recreation of the 1983 cricket World Cup, which India won. His next Chandu Champion is also a sports drama as it’s based on India’s first paralympic Gold Medalist swimmer Murlikant Petkar and his feat for the nation. Hence, there is a major interest in knowing more about the champion. Also, the first-time pair of Kabir Khan and star Kartik Aaryan is keenly looked forward.
Singham Again
All Rohit Shetty’s cop universe films so far – Singham, Singham Returns, Simmba and Sooryavanshi – have has a successful track record. Singham is one of Ajay Devgn’s most loved characters and both the films of the franchise have impressed the masses. Plus, the stakes are even higher in Singham Again in terms of the action and the fact that Singham will battle more menacing enemies this time. The character had hinted this in Sooryavanshi.
The additional feature this time are the new entrants in the franchise in the form of Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff. The film will also feature Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh in cameos as Sooryavanshi and Simmba.
Stree 2
Filmmaker Amar Kaushik’s Stree was not only a surprise hit but also a rare horror-comedy that succeeded in impressing the audiences. It’s unusual cast of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee also played its part. Hence, the second film in the franchise Stree 2 is also keenly awaited. What also works in favour of the film is that the mystery about Shraddha’s character is still not solved. And being a film from the producer Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy universe, Varun Dhawan’s character from Bhediya will also be playing a cameo.
Sky Force
Akshay Kumar has become known in recent years for taking onto real-life stories. In directors Abhishek Kapoor and Sandeep Kewlani’s Sky Force, he will be playing a brave and heroic air force officer. The film is said to be based on India’s first and deadliest airstrike from the yesteryears. After Fighter, it will be interesting to see another action film revolving around India’s air force officers. Sky Force will reunite Akshay with his Airlift co-star Nimrat Kaur while the film will also star Sara Ali Khan.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
Before the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, questions were being raised on whether the audience will accept Kartik Aaryan in the sequel of a film starring Akshay Kumar (Bhool Bhulaiyaa). The film also released at a time that was dark for Bollywood in terms of box office. However, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 won handsomely at the box office despite these obstacles by being one of 2022’s biggest hits.
That film has automatically created hype for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The hit actor-director pair of Kartik Aaryan and Anees Bazmee is expected to deliver yet again and make people laugh like before. It will also be interesting to see the kind of challenge Rooh Baba (Kartik’s character) will face this time around.
Raid 2
Filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta’s Raid turned out to be an impressive crime drama about income tax raids. The film saw Ajay Devgn play an honest and upright IT officer who exposes a corrupt minister, played by Saurabh Shukla. Hence, there are similar expectations from Raid 2, which was recently announced. The presence of Devgn as the protagonist is enough reason to wait for this one. It will also be interesting to see who will get exposed this time and who plays the villain.
Welcome To The Jungle
Alright, so this just might be the longest main cast list for a Bollywood movie. The list goes like – Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Arshad Warsi, Disha Patani, Suniel Shetty, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Shreyas Talpade, Johnny Lever and more, phew! Apart from the chance to see all these actors together, Welcome To The Jungle, which is directed by Ahmed Khan, also takes forward the hilarious Welcome franchise forward. Barring the fact that the story should take place in a jungle this time, nothing is known about this comic caper, which adds to the intrigue.
