The glitz and glamour return to Mumbai as the Macho Hint presents Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2024 kicked off its second edition. Starting on May 2, at the Taj Lands' End, the event promises to be a star-studded celebration of style and talent in the Indian entertainment industry. This year's ceremony goes beyond just awards. Industry insiders and fans can also look forward to invigorating panel discussions featuring prominent figures.
Kicking off the fourth panel of the day are actors Esha Gupta, Kubbra Sait, Zareen Khan, and Shalin Bhanot for the panel titled "The Paparazzi Effect: Does New 'Pap Culture' Put Pressure on Style Quotient? PLUS Airport Looks & Much More: How Much is Too Much?"
In today's era, celebrities are constantly under the watchful eye of paparazzi, be it at high-end restaurants or airport terminals. This omnipresence begs the question: Does this constant scrutiny exert undue pressure on celebrities to maintain a flawless style quotient at all times? The panelists delved into this very topic, exploring the potential downsides of the "pap culture" phenomenon.
One could argue that the pressure to be photographed in trendy outfits can lead to a sense of inauthenticity or a disconnect between a celebrity's personal style and their public persona. The panelists likely discussed the importance of striking a balance between maintaining a stylish image and staying true to one's individual fashion sense.
The discussion also explored the concept of "airport looks," a phenomenon where celebrities are photographed in carefully curated outfits while traveling. The panelists might have debated whether there's a fine line between expressing personal style and succumbing to the pressure of projecting a specific image.
Another interesting aspect of the discussion could have been the exploration of the concept of "too much." With social media constantly buzzing with celebrity fashion moments, is there a danger of oversaturation? During the panel, Esha Gupta talked about the airport looks. Recalling one incident where she hadn’t called for paparazzi but they were already at the airport as Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani were supposed to be travelling together as they were shooting Jugjugg Jeeyo. “I was travelling to Dubai during a 4 am flight. Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani, their teams had called the paparazzi. I did not know their paparazzi were there and me being me, I am in trackpants, crop top and no make-up. I suddenly look at them and I was like ‘Oh My God!’ I also wear a mask because COVID-19 was still there. I still wear a mask. Varun and Kiara looked fresh as a daisy and I looked like someone who actually took a 2 am flight and just woken up.”
She continued, “But, you have to be okay with being seen and how you look like. That’s how you look confident and not take yourself too seriously.”
