The actor experienced massive stardom during the late 1990s and early 2000s before facing a prolonged professional dry spell. He eventually achieved a phenomenal career turnaround with his performances in Aashram, Animal, and The B**ds of Bollywood.
Bobby Deol recalls alcohol addiction during his career lull
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the actor opened up about his vulnerable phase during a conversation on the show Aap Ki Adalat with host Rajat Sharma. Deol confessed that he succumbed to self-pity when movie opportunities vanished, feeling as though his world had completely collapsed.
He disclosed that his father also loved to drink, which influenced his own descent into dependency. Deol noted that his spouse became the sole financial pillar of the family during this period.
He revealed that Tanya managed the entire household expenses and worked continuously while he remained non-functional. The turning point arrived when his kids began questioning why their mother went to the office while their father stayed home. This painful realization snapped him out of his stagnation, prompting a firm decision to reform his lifestyle.
Dismissing ongoing rumours about a marital separation
The actor also addressed widespread public speculation claiming that his marriage was on the verge of collapsing. Deol dismissed these allegations completely and said, “Feels like I am hearing a joke. Women are so strong mentally and emotionally; my wife never left me. She would threaten to leave me if I didn’t stop drinking, but she never did, and I continued to drink. But that was never the case.”
Deol also admitted to an expensive online shopping habit that drew regular scolds from his wife, who would routinely present the bills the next day to show his unnecessary expenditure.
Currently riding a wave of renewed popularity, the star is shifting his focus back to the silver screen. He is fully engaged in promoting his next cinematic venture titled Bandar. The upcoming project is directed by Anurag Kashyap and features an ensemble cast including Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, and Saba Azad as he prepares to once again showcase his acting prowess.
