Making her debut with Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi Pednekar has been making headlines with her films since then. The actress’ last two films, Toilet- Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Savdhaan that released only a few weeks apart have dealt with important social issues like open defecation for women and erectile dysfunction respectively. Although the latter is yet to gain prominence, the issue of open defecation seems to have resonated with the audience and continues to make wave across the nation.
While Salman Khan being signed ambassador to build toilets in Mumbai to stop open defecation, these issues continue to be a menace in rural areas and the film’s leading stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar seem to be working towards it even after the release of their film. In fact, recently we hear that a group of women from Kanpur who are against open defecation, approached Bhumi Pednekar to discuss on the subject and also wanted to make an effort to bring proper sanitation facilities for the women in their town. From what we hear, the women have already kick started their initiative by spreading awareness about the issue in their own unique ways.
Talking about this meeting, Bhumi not only shared pictures on social media but also posted a small note on her Instagram page saying, “The Anti-Lota party... Met these amazing women at an #swachhBharat event yesterday in Kanpur. They actually go every morning & evening and stop people that are about to defecate in the open by flashing their torch light or making noise.Kudos to you amazing women that have taken it upon themselves to bring abt this change.Cause if you change nothing, nothing will change...”
Although Bhumi Pednekar has three fairly successful films in her kitty, she is yet to announce her forthcoming films.
