National Award-winning actor Shabana Azmi will also be seen in Awarapan 2, playing a character named Nafisa. The role marks the first antagonist part of her career, which spans over five decades and more than 150 films. Azmi joined the cast on September 18, 2025, her birthday.
The character of Nafisa was created by writer Bilal Siddiqui as a quietly authoritative presence within the criminal world, whose entry into the story significantly alters the direction of the narrative and the life of the film’s central character, Shivam.
Siddiqui built the character from the inside out, establishing her psychology, her menace, and the precise weight she needed to carry within the story. It was producer Vishesh Bhatt who envisioned the role as a woman’s, a decision that reframed both the character and the film around her. That shift gave the character, now named Nafisa, a new dimension within Shivam’s world, and Azmi was identified as the only actor who could bring her to life.

The Bhatt family and Shabana Azmi share a personal and professional bond that stretches back decades, through films, collaborations, and a close association that predates Awarapan 2 by many years.
For Vishesh Bhatt, her presence in the film carries significance that extends beyond the professional. He said, “Nafisa could only ever be Shabana ji. She brings to this role an impact, a power and a presence that are entirely her own. She came home on her birthday, and everything found its place.”
Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar, written by Bilal Siddiqui, and produced by Vishesh Bhatt. The film releases in cinemas worldwide on August 14, 2026.
