While Karan Johar is known to make Hindi films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and backing several hit films over the years with his production house Dharma Productions, the filmmaker also has a special connection with South Indian films and filmmakers. On Sunday evening, Karan Johar graciously hosted the trailer launch of one of the most awaited films of the year- KGF 2. The pan-India film will be released on April 14, 2022. In less than 24 hours of the release of the trailer of the film, it started trending with millions of views. The Kannada language had over 17 million views while the Hindi version had over 40 million views.
It would not be wrong to term Karan Johar a lucky mascot for South cinema that is now dominating theatres across the country with their content. Karan Johar has presented SS Rajampouli’s magnum opus Baahubali 1 (2015) and Baahubali 2 (2017), the success of which created history at the box office. He followed it up by presenting the bilingual film Ghazi Attack starring Rana Daggubati. The film is based on the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
More recently, Karan hosted the grand Roar of RRR event in Mumbai in December. The event was graced by the team of RRR including SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt. Salman Khan, too, had graced the event.
Apart from this, Karan Johar’s Dharma Production is also collaborating with Malayalam film actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s production house for the upcoming film Selfiee which is the official Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Driving License. Dharma Productions is also backing the upcoming pan-India film Liger starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday.
