Hosted at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, the show paid an ode to nature – something that Rahul has always drawn inspiration from. The House of Lakmē, known for creating trendsetting milestones, has continued to keep the tradition alive, presenting AFEW Rahul Mishra for the first time in India - at the intersection of Fashion X Beauty.

From the grandeur of mountains to the symmetry of snowflakes, the majestic waves of sand dunes, to the arresting features of the human face - nature's artistry is unparalleled. Nature is the best sculptor – and the showcase presented an approach to beauty that enables you to flaunt the artistry of nature. From covering up flaws to enhancing what nature gave you, it’s now time for the 'Ultimate Face Definition with the Lakmē MultiSlayer Sticks.

Having started at the Lakmē Fashion Week, being part of the first batch of designers to showcase at GenNext in 2006, it has been a full circle for Rahul, as he showcased his collection ‘Sculpt’ under his label AFEW - in India at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI on Sunday. The showcase opened with silhouettes that practice this kind of restraint from hue and texture to build a monolithic or say, homogeneous idea of expression. AFEW’s perceived objects of inspiration are trapped inside solid three-dimensional blocks of stone, and the showcase is an illustration of their breaking free. The opening look on Ayesha Kanga, Fashion Person, was a rendition of life breaking free from a solid block of stone, embellished with glimmering white sequins and complemented with achromatic natural forms.

Synergizing with core philosophies at Lakmē, the collection treats natural beauty as an ideal and furthers it by fantasy and self-expression. Synchrony of rigid and fluid forms, ‘Sculpt’ showcases meticulous surface exploration through print, embroidery, appliqué, and other forms of embellishment supported with complex structural silhouettes. Graphic foliage grows over solid forms created in soft denim, silks, and tulle. The collection also borrows from Henri Rousseau’s playful comprehension of natural forms and their textures.

As an effort to engage and empower young people, the show’s set, inspired by a sculptor’s workshop featured sculptures inspired by iconic abstract works of art and have been created by local student artists in Mumbai. The muslin fabric draped at the backdrop will be utilized for making of test garments at the Rahul Mishra ateliers for the coming months.

Sunanda Khaitan, Vice President, Lakme said, “The House of Lakme is delighted to debut AFEW Rahul Mishra at the grand finale of Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI, it happens to be a very wholesome moment for us at Lakmē to present Rahul Mishra, who started his design journey on the ramp of Lakmē Fashion Week in 2006 as one of our GenNext designers. This collection – Sculpt - is mesmerizing and was wonderfully brought alive on the runway, complemented by the high-definition beauty looks created using our latest launch the Lakmē MultiSlayer Sticks. An homage to timeless fashion synergising with core philosophies at Lakmē, the collection treats natural beauty as an ideal and furthers it by fantasy and self-expression.”

Ananya Panday said, “I am extremely honoured to return to the runway at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI as the muse of House of Lakmē. I absolutely loved wearing this beautiful embroidered, achromatic dress from ‘Sculpt’ - AFEW Rahul Mishra. It’s how he created this collection drawing inspiration from nature that came together with the edgy Lakmē MultiSlayer Sticks which gave me the perfect sculpted and snatched look that I can’t wait to recreate even off the ramp.”

Commenting on the collection showcase, designer Rahul Mishra said, “Presenting at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI has always felt like a homecoming and this time around it was an honour to showcase our global easy-to-wear luxury brand ‘AFEW Rahul Mishra’ for the first time in India. Presenting ‘Sculpt’ my Fall-Winter ’24 collection to audiences was incredible. Drawing its inspiration from the House of Lakmē’s MultiSlayer Sticks, the beauty looks will for the wearer define a new approach to beauty, one that is personalised and sculpted to one’s face shape. At AFEW Rahul Mishra we have always celebrated our Indian heritage, married to our international take on fashion and collaborating with Lakmē, at the House of Lakmē Grand Finale for us, will mark a new era in fashion and beauty, one that is inspired by nature as the ultimate sculptor.”
