Vicky Kaushal reacts to Sam Bahadur and Animal clash; says, “We knew it was not the quintessential masala film like the Ranbir Kapoor starrer” : Bollywood News

Vicky Kaushal recently reacted to the much talked about clash which happened in 2023. On December 1, Meghna Gulzar’s highly anticipated historical biopic on Sam Manekshaw, Sam Bahadur as well as the controversial and action-filled Animal released. Both films were pitted against each other, especially considering that millennial actors Vicky and Ranbir Kapoor were leading the star cast respectively. Reacting to the much-hyped clash, Vicky asserted that he was aware that it was not a commercial entertainer and compared it to a ‘test match’ in cricket.

In an interview with The Week Magazine, Vicky Kaushal opened up about the time the two films hit the theatres, wherein he reflected on how he always knew that Sam Bahadur will be gaining acceptance slowly but steadily. “With Sam, we always knew it was a test match; we knew it was not the quintessential masala film that Animal was - it had the shock value and one knew it would create waves at the box office,” the actor told the magazine.

In the same interaction, he also mentioned how the film would have received backlash as soon as it released if people were not ready to accept it. However, Sam Bahadur slowly started gaining prominence over the weeks post its release. Referring to the same, Vicky added, “If it would not click with people, it would not do well, no matter when it released. People started talking about it more and more as the weeks went by”. He continued, “We saw that through January, Sam shows kept going on, and that gives me tremendous happiness.”

For the unversed, Sam Bahadur is based on the real-life events which transpired in the life of India’s First Field Marshall, Sam Manekshaw whereas, Animal revolved around a violent, toxic, and obsessive Ranvijay who is constantly trying to gain attention of his father.
