Sulochana Latkar, a revered actress fondly known as Sulochana didi, passed away in Mumbai yesterday. She had been battling a respiratory illness for the past few months, and her health had recently worsened. As a result, she was admitted to Sushrusha Hospital in Dadar, where she eventually succumbed to her illness. Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan recently took to his blog and penned a heartfelt note for her.
On Monday, Bachchan took to his blog and wrote, “We have lost another great of our Cinema World - Sulochana ji .. the gentle, generous, caring Mother that played in several films with me .. she had been ailing for some time .. and this afternoon she left for her heavenly abode .. I had been monitoring here condition with her family .. but finally the sad news! We can only pray in such unforgiving circumstances.”
He also added, “There was work today as well and the timed schedule allowed me to be back for the GOJ .. happily .. but the news of Sulochana ji has taken away all the cheering and joy of the well-wishers at Jalsa .. I am hesitant to write anymore .. so do excuse ..More another DAY ..”
Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit also took to Twitter and shared a note. She wrote, “Sulochana Tai was one of the most loved and graceful actresses cinema has seen. My favourite film of hers will always be Sangate Aika. Her performance in every film was memorable. I will miss our conversations may you rest in peace. Your contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered.”

Sulochana Latkar did over 250 films in Hindi and Marathi. She started acting when she was in her teens in the mid-1940s and was active till the mid-1990s. Some of her notable Hindi films include Sujata (1959), Naya Kadam (1958), Duniya Na Mane (1959), Bharat Milap (1965), Main Sundar Hoon (1971), Dharmatma (1975), Faraar (1975), Asha (1980), Yaarana (1981), etc. In the latter stage of her career, she was known for playing Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in a number of films.
