Netflix unveiled the trailer for its most awaited musical spectacle of the year, Amar Singh Chamkila, written and directed by Imtiaz Ali on March 28, 2024. Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, the trailer launch event saw the presence of music director AR Rahman too. At the event, the lead stars sang a song live which left the audience mesmerized.

Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra showcased their vocal prowess as they crooned an unreleased song from the upcoming biopic. The audience was cheering and hooting for them.

Imtiaz shared, “Parineeti said that she’s been waiting for 5 years to do a film, where she can sing. I said, ‘this is such a film’, she said, ‘I’m on [board]. I said ‘wow’. And then we started realising ‘Yaar iski shakal nahin milti Amarjot se, phir maine bola – bahut aasaan kaam hai, samose, malai, chaat yeh sab khaana shuru karo, since you have to gain some 10 kilo weight. No girl would have done it, no guy would have done it, for an actor to put on that much weight.”

The film charts the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar of the masses, the highest record-selling artist of his time, who emerged from the shadows of poverty and rose to the heights of popularity in the 80s due to the sheer power of his music, angering many on the way, which finally led to his assassination at a young age of 27.

The film is produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films. Amar Singh Chamkila will be released on April 12.
