In recent years, actors, filmmakers and digital creators have increasingly turned to books as a medium for long-form storytelling. Unlike earlier celebrity releases that relied heavily on sensational excerpts, many of these titles are positioned as reflective, candid or creatively driven projects.

Publishing houses, too, are actively collaborating with well-known personalities, recognising the crossover between screen audiences and readers. The result is a growing list of public figures who have successfully expanded their careers into the literary space. Here’s a look at some celebrities who have joined the author league.
1. Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna is widely regarded as one of the earliest Bollywood actors to successfully pivot into full-time writing. Her 2015 debut Mrs Funnybones became a bestseller and established her as a humour columnist with a distinct voice. She followed it up with The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, a collection of short stories that was later adapted into the film Pad Man, and the novel Pyjamas Are Forgiving. Over time, Khanna built credibility beyond celebrity status, positioning herself as a serious and commercially successful author.
2. Karan Johar

With An Unsuitable Boy (2017), Karan Johar offered one of the more candid celebrity memoirs in India. The book, co-written with Poonam Saxena, made headlines for its personal revelations, from his struggles with bullying and identity to candid observations about Bollywood friendships and rivalries. The memoir reinforced Johar’s public persona while also humanising him beyond the filmmaker image.
3. Priyanka Chopra Jonas

In 2021, Priyanka Chopra Jonas released Unfinished, a memoir tracing her journey from Bareilly to global stardom. The book explored ambition, migration, professional setbacks and identity in an international industry. It debuted on global bestseller lists and strengthened her positioning not just as an actor, but as a global public figure reflecting on culture and reinvention.
4. Prajakta Koli

Digital creator Prajakta Koli, popularly known as MostlySane, transitioned from short-form online content to long-form fiction with Too Good To Be True (2022). Unlike traditional celebrity memoirs, her debut was a romantic novel, signalling a new trend — influencers leveraging strong digital communities to enter mainstream publishing. The move highlighted how internet personalities are now viable names in the literary market.
5. Aisha Sharma

The latest entrant to this growing space is Aisha Sharma, whose debut book Bloom, published by Penguin Random House India, marks her formal step into authorship. Known for her reflective digital presence and wellness-focused content, Sharma’s book leans inward rather than sensational. Instead of industry anecdotes, it focuses on personal growth, thought processes and emotional clarity, aligning with a readership that increasingly seeks introspection over spectacle.
