Saregama and Suniel Shetty's presentation 'Disco Dancer- The Musical' is just days away from a grand premiere on April 14 in Mumbai's NSCI dome. Having wowed the UK audience after a series of sold-out shows in London's West End, 'Disco Dancer- The Musical' is all set to revive the nostalgia of 80s Bollywood even as it pays a glorious, larger-than-life tribute to B Subash's rollicking entertainment which turned Mithun Chakraborty into an international sensation. Rajeev Goswami, the director and choreographer of 'Disco Dancer- The Musical' says the theatrical production has captured the spirit of the times the film was made in.

He adds, "It has been a joy to bring the 80s alive and the response to the musical in London proved that the love for this cult film and the longing for a truly unique time in popular culture, has not faded away. Even though the film was released in 1982, its music, the simple, aspirational story of a street dancer and the impactful dialogues continue to strike a chord with people across generations. This musical is a tribute to Bappi da's evergreen tunes, Mithun da's charisma and big-hearted Bollywood entertainers and we hope to see audiences dancing in the aisles just the way they did in London!"

The director and choreographer also have praise for music directors Salim-Sulaiman, who have reimagined Bappi Lahiri's score and says, "Everyone associated with this project shares the same passion for 80's Bollywood and Salim-Sulaiman are no exception. They poured their heart and soul into the music to make sure its essence remained intact while technical adaptations ensured the songs could lend themselves well to live performances."

He was also tremendously moved when Bappi Lahiri's family watched the rehearsals with great delight. Rajeev says, "I was really overwhelmed because their approval and their presence boosted our morale and inspired us to do even better. Right now, the entire cast and crew are enthused and raring to go. Each and every performer is passionate about the show and it will be a treat to watch them recreate the magic and joy of an era gone by."
