Jodhaa Akbar was a special movie in many respects for actor Sonu Sood. He portrayed Rajkumar Sujamal, the cousin brother of Jodhaa (played by actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan). Ashutosh Gowariker served as director of the epic.

In a recent interview, Sonu Sood told Hindustan Times, “I thoroughly enjoyed shooting for this one. Historical films always give me a high. My mom, being a professor of History, had always encouraged me to do some historical films when I am offered. That is why I said yes to this one.”

The actor recollected how great help his mother was during the making of the film. He said, “She helped me with my character, and guided me throughout the shoot, and also with the script. But she couldn’t see the film. She passed away four months before the release. Then I went for the premiere, I could feel she is sitting besides me.”

He further added, “It reminds me of her memories. She had visited me on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar, that was the last set she visited. That’s why it remains special. She promised me that this film will change a lot of things for me, and it did.”

Ashutosh Gowariker took to his Instagram and shared a post in regard to 15 years of Jodhaa Akbar. He captioned, “Jodhaa and Akbar’s love continues to shine brightly through the ages as a symbol of mutual respect, tolerance and open mindedness between a man and woman, husband and wife. Today we are proud to celebrate the 15th year since our journey that brought their eternal romance to the silver screen."

Jodhaa Akbar, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, told the tale of a Rajput princess who was compelled to wed a Mughal emperor in order to preserve her empire. The princess decided to do so, but only under her own rules. She is eventually won over by the emperor's devotion and affection.
