It was predicted in this column that OMG 2 will take a start in the range of Rs. 7-9 crores. However, the film has done better than expected, what with Rs. 10.26 crores coming at the box office, which is good for the genre that it belongs to. Back in time when OMG! Oh My God had released, it had taken a start of Rs. 4.25 crores. Now, OMG 2 has done more than double of that which is rather impressive. One also needs to consider the fact that there is Gadar 2 in front of it which has taken a blockbuster start and still for OMG 2 to open like this is a big deal indeed.
Rest assured, had the film arrived solo then an opening day number of over Rs. 15 crores were definitely on the cards. This is, in fact, not even a film where Akshay Kumar is in a full-fledged role. Instead, he arrives at just a few crucial junctures of the film but for most part of the narrative, he only gives a direction to the character played by Pankaj Tripathi. However, as a superstar he was responsible for the film because had it not opened well then also the blame would have been on him.
Given the kind of reviews that the film has earned and the reports that are coming in, the film should find itself in the safe zone after the first week itself. In fact, the film is poised to maintain its double digit collections right till Tuesday (barring Monday when the dip may be seen) and that will help it cross the Rs. 50 crores in quick time. Post that it would be about further word-of-mouth coming into play and hopefully OMG 2 will enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club.
