The Swades shoot in Videsh

Bollywood News

Shahrukh is back after recently shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades at NASA. The Oscar nominated Lagaan director who won both national and international acclaim for his last film is gearing towards the completion of his latest venture, which promises to be on a bigger scale than his last film. And while most directors would love to shoot in scenic foreign locales, Gowariker prefers to shoot his film at the Launch Pad 39A of the Kennedy Space Center of NASA in Florida. This goes in sync with the theme of his film where Shahrukh plays an engineer who leaves his home in India and comes to the United States to work for NASA. To add to the authenticity of his film, they are actually shooting it in the NASA space center rather than a Filmcity Set. In Swades, Shahrukh works on a rainfall monitoring satellite known as the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM), which is lifted into an orbit aboard a Space Shuttle. (GPM is an actual NASA mission, currently scheduled to launch in 2007). However this techno-savvy movie is not a sci-fi attempt by Gowariker but a sensible thought-provoking film about an intelligent Indian who leaves his country for a better life abroad but later rediscovers his roots and turns back. The film currently under post-production is set to release in August (most probably on Indian Independence day - 15th August, keeping in sync with the patriotic theme of the film).
