Subhash Ghai represented India at the special anti-piracy round table held in Cannes along with all major Hollywood and European studios and film co-operation bodies. The round table, where all major points relating to audio visual piracy were discussed, also included the presence of some large influential companies from Europe, including France Telecom and Vivendi and the Chinese Film Group. Ghai spoke about the need to form an international body that would educate governments around the world in enforcing piracy laws. He suggested that pirates should be treated as criminals and sentenced accordingly. It was decided that the French government would take it upon themselves to champion this cause with their partners across the world. The round table was a special initiative by the French government to confront the issues of piracy and digital technologies. Ghai was invited by the French Cultural Minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon and Gilles Jacob, the President of the Festival of Cannes, to be a part of it.
