well I was waiting for this movie since long and with Taran's review i was very happy and wanted to see this movie as soon as possible. I was really disappointed to see that the movie was not upto the mark, i mean how come they say that this movie is better than its first part. In addition to it, it was bit boring at many parts. Very very slow pace of the movie plus slow dialogs made everyone in cinema frustrated after some time. People were actually talking with each other at many scenes. "Chalo khatam karo ab movie ko" ...that was the line uttered by many people sitting around me and its not the only case in my session, my friends went to other sessions and the same happened in their session.

Ramu has finally redeemed himself after the disasters of Shiva, Nishabd, Aag and Darling. Sarkar…
Ramu has finally redeemed himself after the disasters of Shiva, Nishabd, Aag and Darling. Sarkar Raj is darker, bolder and more intense than even Sarkar and let us not debate whether or not it is better than its predecessor but one thing is for certain that Ram Gopal Verma has made Sarkar Raj in a darker shade and this distinction has been executed with a touch of class in all aspects. This proves once again that one's pride and ego take him nowhere ('Shiva' & 'Aag') but patience, commitment and resolve bring out the best in individuals. Shankar Nagare has carried the legacy of his father and has become the Sarkar of masses. His boldness, righteousness and power brings justice to people but sometimes, causes evil to stir around him and Sarkar Raj is a true rendition of this malice. Call it, 'the side-effect of power'. The CEO of a power corporation, Anita, proposes a mega plant in Maharashtra and seeks the aid of Sarkar for taking the small town populations into confidence in favour of the project which brings benefits to the communities. Shankar is in the forefront of this exercise and while he has the assurance of Rao Saab to go ahead with the project, his son, Somji opposes Shankar and the power plant. This battle intensifies with the advent of Kantilal Vora, the haughty entrepreneur from Gujarat who fails to gain Sarkar's support. Will Shankar overcome his adversaries and help Anita successfully set up the dream project in Maharashtra or do the adversaries have wicked plans to prevent any good from occurring? Sarkar Raj has more foul play, evil and dirty politics than any of RGV's movies and that itself makes this movie so interesting. Abhishek's brilliant performance as the sharp and confident successor of Sarkar gives him the much needed relief and acclaim to match last year's GURU. He needed this movie as much as RGV himself did after a spate of disasters for both actor and director. Amitabh Bachchan commands his screen presence with his fine performance in a cold demeanor while Aishwarya refrains from over-acting and does what she is meant to do. She looks gorgeous in the formal suits too and the final scene of the film leaves you gaping at the screen, marveling RGV's nimble execution of the plot. Other noteworthy performances include those of Ravi Kale who plays Chander, Govind Namdeo as Hassan Qazi and Dilip Prabhavalkar as Rao Saab. But on the whole, this film belongs to RGV. The man deserves applause for making such a dynamic comeback and for giving us a different Sarkar from what we expected. Not many will agree with the film's malice, tragedies and conclusions but that precisely makes RGV one of the best guys to do this kind of a job. Each and every scene of the film is well conceived, strikingly photographed, crisply edited and masterfully directed. There are some great dialogues which we expect from a Godfather inspired film and in epic style, the distinctive background score of Sarkar adds to the intensity of the scenes. 'Govinda Govinda' has now become iconic with its apt usage in Sarkar Raj and will be remembered as one of the most effective background scores in Indian cinema. Having said that, Sarkar has a lot to say than just 'mujhe jo sahi lagta hai who main karta hoon' and the writers have given us enough lines to cherish. The best one by far is spoken by Sarkar as he draws conclusions from the events that took place before the conclusion – 'jaan lena jurm hai……. Sahi samay par jaan lena, Rajneeti'. Sarkar Raj has numerous scenes that reflect RGV's artful yet simplistic style. Most scenes within Sarkar's abode have the warm sunlight and dialogues narrated in this atmosphere leave a mesmerizing effect. One of the most remarkable scenes from Sarkar was Amitabh placing his hand on Abhishek's when the latter decides to take over the reigns of the empire. This time, it is the gentle embrace between the father and son in the aftermath of tragedies. Watch RGV's superlative direction in scenes where Shankar unleashes his wrath on Hassan Qazi, Kantilal Vora puts forth his cunning plan in front of Sarkar only to get blasted at and at the end of it, being offered some warm idlis – LOL and where the convoy of Shankar and Subhash Nagare is led by bikes carrying the saffron flags of Sarkar as they head out to meet Rao Saab in Thakkarvadi. These are some remarkable moments from the film and long has it been since scenes from RGV's films stood out. Sarkar Raj shows the Nagare family in a gloomy light and while the movie ends with a punctuation rather than a conclusion, it becomes more evident that 'apni sharton par chalnewalo ko keemat chukane padti hai'. - 9.245 on a scale of 1-10.

786 FILM REVIEW BY: SHAHEEN RAAJ SARKAR RAJ – Realistic! Magnificent! Terrific! Fantastic!…
786 FILM REVIEW BY: SHAHEEN RAAJ SARKAR RAJ – Realistic! Magnificent! Terrific! Fantastic! Marvelous! Film: Sarkar Raj Director: Ram Gopal Verma Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tanisha Mukherjee, Govind Namdeo, Victor Banerjee, Supriya Pathak, Sayaji Shinde, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Upyendra Limaye, Rajesh Shringarpure, Shishir Sharma, Ravi Kale, Sumeet Nijhawan & Javed Ansari Was ‘Sarkar’ outstanding or ‘Sarkar Raj?’ Well! Wait till you see one more sequel to the prequel that could be ‘Sarkar Raj Ka Raj!’ Whatever! But finally its time now to welcome back the ‘Aag’ extinguisher or rather the ‘Aag’ creator, the ‘fire(y)’ director Ram Gopal Verma! The return of RGV! Its high time everyone gives him a royal and a princely welcome back. And what a comeback boss after having burnt his fingers et al in his last released venture ‘Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag’ which tanked without a trace at the box office turnstiles. In fact it was his vengeance that he has risen from the dust and the ashes. Yet beware Mr. Ramu the classes and the critics galore may be raving your efforts but what about the masses who have been left out in the cold in tow with a feeling, a sense of Déjà vu. Perhaps your technical brilliance did not impress them or else they could not fathom the dull, the dry and the entertainment less package in lieu with the intriguing mystery of the plot, which ends abruptly. No doubt the film’s tagline ‘Power cannot be given…..it has to be taken’ explains it all but ‘Sarkar Raj’ is just not about only politics. To say so would be politically incorrect as it is also about emotions, love, relations, jealousy, possessiveness, plotting, animosity, betrayal, back stabbing & murder mayhem of course all in the name of power grabbing game not necessarily a politically oriented one. Scenario 1: Just picture the ending of the prequel ‘Sarkar’ where Subhash Nagre aka Sarkar (Amitabh Bachchan) allegedly impersonating a certain Saffron Brigade leader is devastated because his younger son Shankar Nagre (Abhishek Bachchan) has cold bloodedly murdered his elder brother Vishnu Nagre (Kay Kay Menon) with no qualms whatsoever. So is Subhash’s reign (Sarkar) over? Scenario 2: Once again imagine the current movie ‘Sarkar Raj’. Yes of course Subhash’s reign is over as his younger son Shankar Nagre has totally taken over. Now he rules. At this juncture a foreigner Anita Rajan (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) enters the Nagre household with Shepard power plant proposal to be set up in Maharashtra. Subhash rejects the proposal, his wife Pushpa (Supriya Pathak) nods her head like a silent spectator that to throughout the movie, while Shankar’s wife Avantika (Tanisha Mukherjee) is lost in her own world until she drops dead in a bomb explosion with a pregnancy pause (Pun intended) that takes place right under his nose, in the verandah of the Nagre residence. The chess like game of the power plant gains momentum with all the pawns trying to pull the carpet from under their rival’s feet. Sample the names of the pawns: Hassan Qazi (Govind Namdeo), Mike Rajan (Victor Banerjee), Karunesh Kaanga (Sayaji Shinde), Kantilal Vora (Upyendra Limaye), Sunil Shinde (Shishir Sharma), the silent man (Ravi Kale), the mystery man (Javed Ansari), Bala (Sumeet Nijhawan), Rao Saheb (Dilip Prabhawalkar) and last but not the least Sanjay Somji (Rajesh Shringarpure). Scenerio 3: To picture this you will have to travel in time in a time machine. As I said earlier it could be the hat trick movie and hopefully the final sequel probably titled “Sarkar Raj Ka Raj†in which Shankar and Avantika’s earlier son will return from US to settle the grand finale revenge score. He has to come because Shankar has been eliminated. Subhash the weakling by now has given up all the fight. He is frantically ordering everyone around to summon his grandson. Pronto. No more brickbats for you Ramuji. You deserve all the bouquets for your perfect directorial brilliance. I found all the scenes like a painter’s colorful palate. Hats off also for your technical team comprising of Prasad Pandey (Scriptwriter), Amar Mohile (Background Score), Amit Roy (Cinematography), Allan Amin (Action), Debashish Misra (Sound), Sunil Nigvekar (Art) and Praveen Nischol (RGV’s co-producer). Performance wise all the actors and I mean all the actors have surpassed their own prowess with an excellent display of their par excellence histrionics in alphabetical, chronological or in order of appearance, take it the way you want, starting of course from Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachan, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Govind Namdeo, Javed Ansari, Ravi Kale, Rajesh Shringarpure, Supriya Pathak, Sayaji Shinde, Shishir Sharma, Summet Nijhawan, Tanisha Mukherjee, Upyendra Limaye & Victor Banerjee. So in spite of being a hardcore critic I salute them all.

Brilliantly made movie with exellent performances. RGV uses the bachchan clan very well and fits them into roles they were born to play. The music is ok it caters to a niche audience. The first half is a bit low but still watch worthy. The story was awesome. Must-See Film!

Good movie. I mostly liked the dialogs...and the suspense was good...but ending is weak...I wanted the complete ending...but unfortunately director wanted to keep the ending open so he can make the sequal. Good for one time :)
