I wouldnt call Salaam-e-ishq a tribute to LOVE, but its more like a tribute to KARAN JOHAR, YASH CHOPRA & MANI RATNAM brands of filmmaking ! which is not bad, if presented with care ..however,this kichdi is long winded and tests your patience as a viewer ..but its not a bad movie ..it does sparkle with well handled moments at times, but cliche (read cheesy) dialogues, bad acting aka hamming by some of the actors, and a confused screenplay leave you well below the expectations you had from the movie.. But the film did manage to surprise me in certain aspects..from the promos, I was quite excited about the JOHN-VIDYA track, showed great chemistry and their story seemed interesting..but it turned out to be another version of Saathiya & i did not enjoy the chemistry the way i was expecting to enjoy it..anyways, performance wise, both the actors have done quite well. Vidya is excellent as the television reporter and is shown as the more mature of the two initially..but after her accident, it is John who takes over..and his efforts to bring her back to normalcy is beautifully depicted..one scene which has been picturised innovatively, is when John takes Vidya to his parents house and tries to make her remeber when they first met..also, the preclimax scene at Akshaye's house is good..overall, a good effort, but not MY favourite track ! The SALMAN-PRIYANKA track was ok..not mind blowing..Salman's inclusion could be termed as a guest appearance..and even when he arrives, he gets into his "Iam-so-cool-I can speak with a western accent" mode, with dialogues that seems to be a distant cousin of HAHK,KKHH and all sugar coated love stories..and it looks like age is catching up with Sallu..anyways, even so, there were some moments that he created in the movie..the one where he acts like he is proposing to PRIYANKA, with the "tring tring" bit...PRIYANKA...she shud be getting the best award for Hamming her lungs out ! As an item number queen / wannabe tragedy queen, she tries hard to be funny..oh well, at least she tried ! but she does get into the groove in the more serious scenes like the one in the cafe with ANIL kapoor and on the boat with Salman Khan..overall a track thats just nice to look at, but emotion-wise, didnt do anything for me ! The AKSHAYE-AYESHA track was innovative, in the sense, the dialogues were funny and more identifiable..AKSHAYE simply rocked..his potrayal as the commitment phobic guy is so energetic and hilarious, it really perks up the movie to a good extent..however, AYESHA sadly has nothing much to do, except mouth some philosophy about love and moan..but she does justice to whatever she has been offered..the best scenes from this track would be the one with Akshayes's imagination and the climax mandap scene..also the lunch scene when Akshaye tries to break off his marriage is hilarious ! I was least excited about the GOVINDA-SHANNON track, but I quite enjoyed their story..although it is Raja hindustani part 2, it does keep one's interest..the communication (or mis-communication) between the two kept me in splits throughout..Govinda as a cab driver with a heart of gold has done a fine job, although wish he had paid a bit more attention on his makeup which does not hide his age..SHANNON although cute to look at, needs to hone her expressions more..especially when she has to cry (at least by bollywood standards..it just isnt enough!) scenes that stand out are the Airport one when Govinda sees Shannon for the first time, when he closes his eyes and says "I Love you", and the scene at the climax..Shanon also gets to shine in the climax where she abuses her ex-boyfriend's parents in Hindi ! The best track that I liked was the ANIL-JUHI one..a rip off from American Beauty, where a married middle-aged man falls for a much younger girl...Anil is a powerhouse of talent and shines in every scene that he has..his boredom with his life, his childlike excitement when he falls for ANJALI, and his guilt when he realises his mistake is wonderfuly enacted by him..he also proves that he is gutsy, when he shaves off his moush and wears hep cargoes and jackets in order to impress his girl friend's friends..his attempt at breakdancing is hilarious and you also feel bad for him, since he doesnt know that he is making a fool out of himself..JUHI, although she does not have much to do footage-wise, turns in an excellent performance..her scenes with Anil when she suspects his infidelity and then later when her doubts are confirmed and the one in the plane, have been sensitively and maturely performed by her..this is definitley the most emotional and heartwarming track of the lot..the only sour thumb was Anjali who played Anil "lust" interest..could do to improve her acting..and although she tries to look hot, she is more apt for cutie pie roles..but decent nevertheless.. The SOHAIL-ISHA track though not connected to the main story in any way, is cute and funny..since the two have nothing much to do performance wise, and are there for only 4-5 scenes, I enjoyed it thouroughly..especially the scene where their bed catches fire on their first night and then the scene in the end credits where their train passes though the tunnel..howlarious ! Sohail does go over the top at times, but its acceptable since he does not have many scenes ! timepass track ! The length of the movie is like 4 hours (if you count the interval and the trailers and advts) ..not a problem if it had had the right ingredients, in the right amount to keep you engrossed..the narration also is confusing ..the way it flits in and out of the 6 tracks..you get used to one track and then it suddenly shifts focus to another one! Irritating ! Music is excellent..SEL has done an outstanding job..every number has been picturised beautifully ..excellent sets, costumes and choreography ! my favourite ones are the title song "Salaam-E-Ishq" & "Ya rabba".. So did I like the movie in total ? well, yes and no..the movie shines only in parts and there is no track which can be termed the best..all of the stories have their "moments"..Nikhil Advani's Kal Ho Naa Ho is my favourite movie, but sadly this time he sort of missed the bus and caught a bullock cart instead !

Watched it online, have NO plans of going to the theatre and shelling out my bucks. The film stinked to the max! *WARNING: This content may contain spoilers* Copied directly and in some parts, indirectly, from the super hit Love Actually, Saalam-E-Ishq has nothing to offer. As they say "Too many cooks spoil the broth", Salaam E Ishq just gives the proverb more recogonition. The film turns out to be "kichdi". Coming from the debutant director Nikhil Advani and such a huge starcast, it is almost natural that moviegoers have high expectations - sadly, which Salaam E Ishq fails to meet or even *touch*. For one thing, it is long. Long - EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA LONG! Movies that go above the time limit of 2 and a half hrs - 3hrs should have that extra touch. But as far as Salaam E Ishq is concerned, to hell with the extra touch, the film(the first 3hrs) comes nowhere near what one might categorize a "good movie". The movie is 3 and a half hrs long but what seems like after 7 hrs the movie FINALLY comes to an end! Truthfully, only the last 10 minutes of the movie are tolerable. The 3 and a half hours are just the movie - EXCLUDING the intermission and advertisements which account for about 15-30 minutes of the movie - take thirty and add it to 3 and a half hrs. You get 4 hrs. Now add the travel time. Nearly 5-6 hrs. And this movie is definately not worth spending half your day. But I've just begun! Let's dissect the stories and the performances. Track 1 - Kkamini and Rahul - Priyanka and Salman So Kkamini is an ambitious Bollywood wannabe item girl. She wants to make it big and becomes the heroine of a KJo movie. She fakes "true romance" with Rahul so that she appears genuine to KJo. Ages pass (or so it feels like) and the bootleg romance actually becomes true love in the end but Rahul doesn't do ANYTHING to change Kkamini's priorities - wonder who/what brought such a revolution in her life...and they live happily ever after...Ya-da-ya-da-yara. *yawns* extremely boring, unreasonable and senseless. As far as the performances are concerned, the less said the better. Priyanka hams - You feel Ash was better as the wannabe girl in Dhoom2! And that is saying something! Salman, yet again, fails to impress. He is all fake. From his mannerisms to his accent - all fake! It's so ridiculuos that it makes you laugh out loud! What was Nikhil thinking when he signed them opposite each other? The two share ZILCH chemistry. Sign Priyanka with Akshay instead. At least then can one expect to find good performances! It wouldn't matter much if the track was taken out altogether. My rating of this track: 0.5 / 5 - being extremely generous! Track 2 - Raju and Stephanie - Govinda and Shannon Raju is a taxi driver who dreams that someday or the other, an english woman will come, sit in his taxi and fall in love with him. His dreams do come true but to some extent. Stephanie comes and sits in his taxi but she is chasing an NRI whom she dearly loves. Raju falls for her and wants her to get her love. The NRI gets married to a dutiful indian girl and Stephanie is heartbroken. Eventually she falls for Raju. Doesn't sound much interesting, does it? It actually is interesting! The hinglish conversations between the two keeps you engrossed. Both Govinda and Shannon were simply wonderful. Govinda took on the main role while Shannon supported him wonderfully. The comic scenes, since Stephanie can't speak Hindi and Raju can't speak english, are wonderful and romantic when need be. If Salaam E Ishq was based on this story alone, it would've been great. My rating of this track: 4.5/5. Track 3 - Ashutosh and Tehzeeb - John and Vidya A Hindu-Muslim couple dearly in love. Tehzeeb meets with an accident and loses her memory. Ashutosh keeps pestering her till the time she gains her memory back. Most developed story of the lot - although boring. Vidya and John are victims of bad storytelling - their perfromances and chemistry are bound to get them 3 stars! My rating of this track: 3.5/5 Track 4 - Vinay, Seema and Anjali - Anil, Juhi and Anjana Vinay has a perfect life, in a perfect world, with a perfect companion and perfect kids. So what exactly is the problem here? Their world's bloody too perfect. When a 40 year old dude (Vinay) falls for a 20 year old girl, he is ready to leave his perfect wife (Seema) but doesn't as he is told not to do so by Kkamini. Interesting concept - horribly told. Juhi was perfect - her acting could not have been better. She actually made people shed tears when she did. What spoils it? Anil's transformation was simply intolerable. Anjana was considerably good but she had a hasty exit. Ironically, this is the only part where Priyanka actually does a good performance in the movie. A little bit of editing would've helped. My rating of this track: 2.5/5 Track 5 - Ramdayal and Phoolwati - Sohail and Isha Newly wed couple. They want to loose their virginity but are unable to do so as someone or the other interrupts them each time. Possibly, the frontbenchers found this interesting. Held no significance whatsoever to the ongoing movie. Desperately tries to be funny, fails to do so. Take it out and viewers are better off! My rating of this track: 1/5 Track 6 - Shiven and Gia - Akshay and Ayesha The couple is engaged to get married. Shiven is anxious as he does not want to loose his freedom and thus upsets Gia who calls off the wedding. Soon after, Shiven regrets his descision and realizes all he wishes is Gia. Coolly, Gia agrees to marry someone else. Shiven gets back to his senses and marries her - end of story. Concept copied from Pyarr ke side effects. However, great comic timing demonstrated on Akshay's part. He was good - but not the best - that friends is reserved for Govinda and Shannon. Ayesha Takia was OKAY given her miniscule role. My rating of this track: 3/5 The editing was hideous. Couldn't have been worse. What could've been fit into a 2hr+ movie was dragged endlessly to a 3 and a half hr movie leaving the audience bored. One wonders when the movie will be over - it's L.O.N.G. Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's music is good. The title track and Dil Kya Kare are wonderful. The cinematography ranges from average to good. The only people from the huge star cast who manage to leave a mark are Govinda, Shannon, Akshay, Juhi, Vidya and John. They were all very good. Performances of the rest aren't even worth mentioning except maybe Anil's. Not even worth watching once. Nikhil desperately tries to copy KJ at times - fails miserably. Overall rating: 15/30

Salam-E-Ishq!! As most people would, we all entered the cinema-hall with great expectations from Nikhil Advani who has 'Kal Ho Na Ho' under his belt. Riding on his past success, he manages to pull together a massive star cast(that indeed are very talented) but somehow he still does not manage to leave a mark. The plusses are that there are moments where Nikhil's directional work is fabulous. Vidya's breakdown at Akshaye's house is phenomenal and has the ability to make you shed a tear! The Anil-Juhil-Anjana track can make you relate to someone you know quite easily and is a great idea. The music is also really good. Govinda did what he does best and entertains at times. Shanon was a bit of surprise package and acted quite decently! The minuses are that Priyanka and Salman are quite disappointing. Salman dresses well but thats about it. His performance is very average. Priyanka has her moments of brilliance but sometimes she just makes you cringe. Sohail n Isha, although a good idea doesnt really manage to make you laugh and the director doesnt manage to make you laugh. Akshaye n Ayesha were good at what they did but it seemed to be dragging on after a point and was quite tiresome. The script writing, screenplay and editing was way below par. At times you feel, that Nikhil Advani's Kal Ho Na Ho was amazing because it had an amazing script, dialogues, screenplay and dialogues none other than the genius-> KJo(Karan Johar) Salam-e-Ishq olny goes wrong where Karan wasnt involved!!! Think about it.. Nikhil can cook a meal with a recipe but is not a chef!! A wonderful seperate movie could be made on John Vidya.. Pyar ke Side effects already exists for Akshaye-Isha story.. Anil-Juhi-Anjana has the equivalent of KANK However, the movie is not bad.. But its not amazing in any sense.. Far below expectations.. and is "VERY OKAY"

Please can the director tell me with such an amazing starcast how did he manage to make such a disgusting movie. the best pair in the movie was of john and vidya simply because there was a story, it touched ur heart and made u feel emotional and sohail khan provided some nice comedy which stupidly the director gave only a couple of minutes in the whole movie. if this movie is a tribute to love well then i really wonder........??????!!!!!! the movie is so painstakingly long that u have to actually keep looking at ur watch as to when it will end. any good movie leaves an impact, this movie sadly left none. this movie i guess will work and it will be one of the examples of how a movie like this works at the B.O. because of its starcast and a movie like dor or kabul express don't which is so sad because there is so much more of effort and thinking for movies like dor and kabul which does not even get appreciated. anyway thankfully its over. ppl go for it at ur own risk and take a panadol along with u!!!!!!

Salaam-e-Ishq arrives in style at the box office, following tremedous hype and excitment, and of course let's not forget the directors previous box office hit, Kal Ho Naa Ho. Question: Now the big question is, does Salaam-e-Ishq live up to the hype? Salaam-e-Ishq tells six different love stories, well you could say five love stories and one comedy. The best of the stories in my opinion was John and Vidya's story; it carries a good concept, wonderful acting, a twist and probably the best moments of the entire movie; truly heartfelt. There was certainly chemistry between this couple, and i'm telling you now, the John-Vidya jodi is one to watch out for in the coming years! I felt Salman and Priyanka's story was too fake. It had a grand outlook but there was no real story behind it. The whole chasing Karan Johar idea seemed abit weird, and didn't do justice to the power of such mega stars. They deserve a more powerful or atleast a little more realistic story. There was one plus point though - Priyanka's introduction in the movie - hottt! Anil and Juhi's story was more realistic, set in the suburbs of London, it was something a common man of the UK could perhaps relate to. Juhi was sweet and sincere in her role and Anil was professional as ever - however, shaving off the moustache in that one scene may raise a few eyebrows! Akshay Khanna and Ayesha Takia's story had its fair share of good moments, i felt Akshay's performance was one of the best we have ever seen from him. He fell naturally into the the soul of the character and his expressions in happy scenes and sad were completely unique. Govinda and his dream girl Stephanie's story was really cute and had some amazingly funny moments, especially the climax scene, where Stephanie goes up to the parents at the wedding and says a few lines of hindi straight from her heart! That's one scene you could watch over and over again! Sohail Khan's story isn't really much of a story, it's just comic relief but it's truly quality! For me, there are a some beautiful scenes which remain in the mind, even after the credits begin to roll (spoilers included). These include: * Vidya's accident and loss of memory * Anil and Juhi confrontation on the plane * Akshay Khanna's hillarious expressions throughout the movie * John's proposal to Vidya * Salman and Priyanka besides the glowing bridge at night * John and Vidya's meeting at Askhay Khanna's house * Anil and Priyanka's pre-climax meeting at the cafe * Govinda's outburst at the climax wedding(s) Answer: Not really How does Salaam-e-Ishq compare to Kal Ho Naa Ho? I think Nikhil Advani tries too hard in Salaam-e-Ishq to deliver a perfect piece of work, and it's a shame to say he is far from perfect this time around. Although he handled six different stories really well, i think the unnecessary length of the movie (3hrs 30mins) and some weak storylines adds to points in the wrong direction - a dissapointing downfall. I think the music of Salaam-e-Ishq is better than Kal Ho Naa Ho, but other than that i think Kal Ho Naa Ho wins on all other grounds, it was a far more superior film in terms of quality of content. Salaam-e-Ishq scores full marks on its direction, screenplay and choreography - it's a true treat for the eyes, but sorry Nikhil, the movie could have easily been edited to be rounded off under 3hrs. Because of the length factor, boredom starts to creep in at times - perhaps because there isn't such a personality on screen that has the ability to keep your eyes glued on the screen for over 3 hours. For example Shahrukh Khan in Mohabbatein - even that ran on for 3hrs and 20 minutes, and had numerous stories blended into one concept, but for some reason viewers didn't find the need to complain about the length, because it didn't feel as though it was dragging, (unlike Salaam-e-Ishq), the sole presence of Shahrukh was powerful enough to keep the attention of the viewers. Overall, Salaam-e-Ishq is great family entertainment so please go watch it at the cinema, it is an enjoyable movie with scenes that will make you laugh and also cry. Do not go into the cinema expecting another Kal Ho Naa Ho, because remember there is no King Khan, but there is a beautiful story in that of John and Vidya's, and some really funny moments. You're getting your moneys worth at the cinema, atleast in terms of length. Who gives you a 3hr 30min movie for £5 these days? (",) Tip for Nikhil Advani: stick to one story in your next movie, rather than six different one's. Best story: John and Vidya
