On the whole, Rock On!! is an amazing experience. The highpoint is the emotional quotient, the skillful performances and the superb execution of the subject. At the box-office, this urban film holds tremendous appeal for metros and mini-metros. Business at multiplexes of Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and NCR, Kolkata and South in particular should be excellent. Very strongly recommended!

I read an article somewhere about the Bahu being a Babe under the sari and dyammmmmmm is the article true. Prachi's role wasn't long but fuh sure significant and positive. At the age of what 19 she has given a poised and mature performance and showed alot of potentional. She made Bani what it was and yet there was no Bani in Sakshi. It was just Sakshi. Take a bow lady. For me the surprise was how good Farhan and Prachi looked as husband-wife. Take bow Farhan and Prachi. Honest and Genuine acting. Arjun surpised me with his intense portrayal of a failed man. He also has shown his potential. Three cheers for Arjun. More of an actor now than model. Purab was wicked funny and added the much need humor. Overall good movie. Nice story. Well directed. Rock On ROCKS the HOUSE

Ever since the first trailer of the movie was out on TV, I was hunting the internet to know more about the movie. There are short patches of effective comedy throughout the movie. The best thing about the movie is that, it has reached out to the "yet to be explored territory" for Bollywood. The direction is fabulous. The sets for the audition in the movie are well set. I think this movie would have failed in the box office if a movie like this was released 4 to 5 years back. I watched the 3-clock show, and believe me, the show was running full ! These days the "alag" storylines have started gaining acceptance amongst the Indian audience.

The storyline basically revolves around 4 friends connected by music, things that go wrong in between and how they eventually have a reunion and get back to doing what makes them happy. The storyline doesnt have any twists as such. You know whats going to happen in the end, you still yearn to watch how the movie ends. The movie ends with a great song, and I love the background score when Arjun Rampal comes onto the stage for the last performance in the movie. Fantabulous!

The way the story is shown on screen, with frequent references to incidents in the past, keeps your mind boggled and you are always in the "thinking mode" as to why things "in the present" are like the way they are. Eventhough the plot is pretty predictable, the simple story which potrays what usually goes wrong with people who think of setting up a rock band, keeps the movie away from becoming a bore to watch.

The characters are well chosen. Farhan Akhtar looks dashing with his flowing long hair. Arjun Rampal looks refreshingly different. Luke looks good too. The best part is that people have probably never concentrated on the look of the cast so much in the movies. The group truly looks like an aspiring bunch of people who want to make it big.

About the songs, I bought the CD when the music was out. Except for the title song that comes up on the TV every now and then, I hadnt liked the rest of the songs. But after having watched the movie, I have come back home and already listened to all the songs in the movie a couple of times over ! It happens some times that you make a mental picture of the representation of the video in the song, and start to love it.

I rate the movie 5/5. Its a must watch. If you loved Dil Chahta Hai, you will most definitely end up liking, if not loving this movie.

Rock On traverses the simple ’spirit of winning’ path that is usually followed by films of the sports genre like Chak De India, Goal or for that matter the director of this film, Abhishek Kapoor’s previous attempt Aryan. The plot outline is obvious for this variety. There’s a committed individual or a team who can’t make it big for the first time. Life gives a second chance and this time is the phase to prove credentials. What matters in such endeavours is the conviction in direction to connect with the audience. Rock On scores on that level.

Despite such patented predictability, one still relates to Rock On. You noticeably know that Arjun Rampal would make a late entry in the climax concert but your heart still goes out on his appearance. You aren’t surprised when one of the band members is diagnosed of cancer but you still feel for him. That’s because the simplicity and sincerity of the direction and performances touch you.

The storytelling is somewhat slow and drags in the preliminary portions. The film gets into frequent flashback episodes and at times you are caught unaware on the instance where it ends. Even the back-story takes a tad bit long to reach to the point where the band disperses. Unimaginatively the screenplay uses the same scheme of a rock concert for its first key plot-point and also the climax. But seemingly that was inevitable since the genre of the film restricts its creative scope. Also Farhan Akhtar’s breakup with his girlfriend doesn’t come across quite convincingly.

On the upside, the musical theme of the film is ably supported by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s rocking score. For once you don’t feel that songs are forced in a Bollywood film. There’s also a splendid spoof on how the band merges rock with dandiya to gain some quick money. How one wishes the film had more of such lighter moments which would have accentuated the youthful appeal to Dil Chahta Hai extents. The director also manages to pull off a subtle satire on Anu Malik, while casting him at his own expense.

Rock On seems to be clearly designed by Farhan Akhar as his own acting debut and he doesn’t let himself down. Lending voice to all his songs helps him to get into his character with effortless ease. One could certainly overlook the lisp in his dialogue delivery. Arjun Rampal looks mature in his character but isn’t quite credible while handling the guitar. Purab Kohli has a natural flair for comedy and Luke Kenny is persuasive in his role. From the female leads Shahana Goswami as Arjun’s wife comes up with the most compelling act and adds some depth to the drama. Prachi Desai justifies her poised presence.

It’s interesting how director Abhishek Kapoor attempts to make commercial entertainers on subjects that are not much prevalent in our country. His last film Aryan was on boxing, a sport not much popular in India and now he tries his hands on rock culture, which again isn’t much recognized here. At least this time he succeeds in creating a realistic rock feel.

Rock On strikes a chord on that note.

It you have a dream, it is nice to follow it. The feel is so great! It is also nice to see people following their dreams. It fills our heart. Because it is life!

When you chase a dream you will feel it is far away. You start believing that you cannot reach it. But the moment you run away from it, it will start following you like your shadow. Can years kill that dream? Like a grass seed which suffer all the heat and hide itself in the soil for a right opportunity. When the rain arrives the seed knows it is time to come out of the shell. It is time to grow, to live!

A very good feel! That is how I can summarise the movie. The body of the movie is made of dreams and music give life to it. The story was only a skeleton otherwise the film moved much on dreams, relations and music. The story could have been better. A kind of hurriedness can be observed in story telling, especially on the turning points. There is slowness in the story as well in the middle. However the brilliant start and excellent ending makes the movie quite different and entertaining. The director was good in the selection of cast and he extracted the best from them. The music was used brilliantly and the climax was superb. Overall, the director Abhishek Kapoor impresses where as a writer he has to improve a lot.

The performance in general is rocking. Farhan Aktar leads the gang with splendid performance. 10/10. Arjun Rampal however could not match to the energy of the youngsters and has to settle with a 7/10. Purab Kohli is simply brilliant. 10/10. Luke Kenny’s character didn’t have much to play except in the climax and Luke did that well. 7/10. Prachi Desai looks good and did her role well, however the character as such was a let down so she has to content with an ordinary performance. 7/10. Shabana Goswami got a good role and she handled it quite convincingly. 9/10. The other two girls who played the love interests were wasted with lack of a role which has any affect on the movie. Both of them deserve a 5/10.

Rocking – is the one word I have for the music of the film. It is the blood and soul of the movie. Very good! The Climax song breaks all the boundaries and brings a feel to fill the hall with music and life. Superb!!

Cinematography is excellent. Quite different, creative and brilliant.

Choreography I will say is mixed with the story telling so I wish not to separate, but the feel was simply superb throughout the song sequence, so the Choreographer worth all the applauds

Editing could have been better. At least in two scenes it broke the flow of storytelling.

Rock On traverses the simple ’spirit of winning’ path that is usually followed by films of the sports genre like Chak De India, Goal or for that matter the director of this film, Abhishek Kapoor’s previous attempt Aryan. Life gives a second chance and this time is the phase to prove credentials. What matters in such endeavours is the conviction in direction to connect with the audience. Rock On scores on that level.

Four friends share a common passion for music and form a rock band called Magik. Aditya (Farhan Akhtar) is the lead vocalist, Joe (Arjun Rampal) is the guitarist, KD (Purab Kohli) is the drummer and Rob (Luke Kenny) handles the keyboard. They get a chance to cut out an album but things don’t work out and the group splits to go their separate ways.

A decade later Aditya’s wife Sakshi (Prachi Desai) attempts to reunite the group. After some initial hiccups and ego clashes, the band members bond and blend to brew good tunes. Predictably the climax is set in a rock concert where the band performs to perfection.

Despite such patented predictability, one still relates to Rock On.
