I've seen a few gangster films in my life time which have done pretty well but this has to go down as one of the original and classic gangster flicks in Bollywood. You can tell its a film directed by VVC with the background score so similar to 1942 Love Story. Anil is first rate and steals the show, especially when he turns serious. Jackie is awesome, and I am a massive fan of his work in this film. There isn't much scope for Madhuri in this role, but she fulfils it perfectly. Nana Patekar plays his role to perfection, so much that you start to hate him and are happy to see him die at the end!
