Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum Review {3.0/5} & Review Rating

EXPECTATIONS

Fun, naughty and a peppy outing - This is what one expects from the soundtrack of Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum which mainly comprises of four songs. Since the film is a sex-com and not really a quintessential musical, composers Anjjan - Meet Bros along with guests Sachin-Jigar are expected to create something which acts as a good filler to the narrative. In that aspect the musical team (with Kumaar as a lyricist and Mayur Puri chipping in with a song) does well too.

MUSIC

The album kick-starts with a cracker of a number 'Dil Garden Garden Ho Gaya' which comes with the tag of 'instant chartbuster'. The song has everything going for it, be it the rhythm, pace, attitude that goes with the feel of the film and lyrics that are naughty without going overboard or getting into the double meaning territory. It is also good to see Vishal Dadlani going all out once again (as a singer) and totally enjoying the tune set by Sachin-Jigar. The young composer duo hasn't been setting a foot wrong ever since they shot into the Bollywood screen and along with Mayur Puri, they crack it well once again. The only grudge one has from the song is that it is way too short (it lasts just about three minutes) though it's remix version gives a listener something to cheer about all over again.

The moment 'Shirt Da Button' kick-starts, the immediate reaction is that of shock. There are two fold reasons for that. Firstly the song takes a melodic route; something which was least expected in this film since at least on the surface, there isn't really a place for any mushy romance. Further shock value comes from Kumaar's lyrics since they take a cheesy route and yet are presented in Sonu Nigam's voice in such a manner that one wonders how the singer was actually convinced to get into this mode.

One gets the answer after hearing the song repeatedly because it becomes quite clear that while lyrics here were indeed unconventional and could well see mixed reactions coming their way (though they fit in well with the film's genre and treatment), it is an intoxicating composition by Anjjan - Meet Bros that turns out to be the ultimate winner. Not just the tune hooks you on in a big way, only ending up resulting in you humming the song after a while; even Sonu's silky voice plays its magic all over again, hence taking you back in time when he delivered back to back chartbusters with his various non-film albums.

The same can't be said though about the Kailash Kher's version which appears a rather odd and misplaced in the scheme of things. Frankly, the makers could have just retained the original version by Sonu since this one appears to be an unwanted distraction.

The album moves ahead with 'Hum Toh Hain Cappuccino' and yet again it's the lyrics that make you wonder what really went into making of this song. Based on Shilpa Shetty's 'U.P. - Bihar Lootne' [Shool], the song is an all male version with Sukhwinder Singh, Daler Mehndi, Riteish Deshmukh and Swaroop coming together to bring on some fun. The lyrics go through a sea change with only the opening line from the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composition remaining intact. While the original tune is anyways popular, one now waits to see how this song is presented on screen since it is aimed at the gentry.

Last to arrive is a quintessential club track with Neeraj Shreedhar doing the honours. Anjjan - Meet Bros don't really break any new grounds with 'Volume High Karle' but ensure that as a part of the narrative, the song would keep the audience engaged. Though the lyrics and the composition do remind one of 'Volume Kam Kar' [Housefull] and 'Pappa Toh Band Bajaaye' [Housefull 2], the similarity ends at just the surface with 'Volume High Karle' managing to find its own place. A quick fire number that may not cover a huge distance but would be fine to be heard and seen with the film, it also arrives in a 'remix version'.

OVERALL

As expected, Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum has good energy to it and brings in the kind of youthful flavour that was on the cards. Though one still feel that at least a song or two more could have made it a much more fulfilling experience, there is still a definite chartbuster in the form of 'Dil Garden Garden' that should help it cover a greater distance. Moreover even 'Shirt Ka Button' has in it to find an audience for itself while the remaining two songs should add as decent fillers to keep the film's pace intact.
