Some call him the best actor, few assume him as actors’ actor and many believe he is the perfectionist. Many labels for Aamir Khan but one can add one more feather in his cap after watching his latest flick by saying that he SUCKS too at least in pre interval portion of Yash Raj Production’s Dhoom 3 (D3). If someone thinks that Zoolander look of Aamir Khan and overdoing are the required ingredients for perfectionism then one must give the perfection whole new meaning. Aamir Khan is anything in D3 but perfectionist.
Before discussing further about plusses and minuses of latest installment of Dhoom franchise allow me to discuss about plot of the movie. Yes, D3 has a plot which is rare entity in recent Bollywood movies. Plot is interesting but borrowed one. If one is aware of famous Hollywood director Christopher Nolan (Batman fame) who has also directed a film titled “Prestige†starring two hot throbs Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Aamir Khan’s role in D3 as Sahir Khan is what Christian Bale has performed in Prestige.
It will not be good to reveal the entire plot of D3 but I may take liberty of revealing briefly about Prestige. Prestige is the story of rivalry between two magicians who become more exacerbated by their attempts to perform the ultimate illusion. In one of the illusion performed by Christian Bale which bamboozles his rival Hugh jackman is the illusion where he goes into one box, disappears and re appears from other. Plots of both Prestige and D3 are closely knitted with this illusion. One who has watched Prestige first can easily solve the mystery of Aamir Khan as Sahir Khan in D3 before director and writer Vijay Krishna Acharya himself reveals it to the audience minutes before interval.
Moviegoers expect extraordinary action from Dhoom series which D3 tries to offer but falters miserably on few occasions. Special effects are considered necessary part of action flicks but D3 does not offer the same impeccably. In one chase scene in which Aamir Khan’s BMW sports motorcycle turns into jet ski is more funnier than jaw dropping.
As aforementioned that film action scenes coated in special effects are not immaculate but in few scenes if one looks closely can find blatant mistakes. In first bank robbery scene where Aamir Khan rides his motorcycle on steel string from one building to other shows how badly director has missed one technical point. While riding motorcycle on steel string there are no rubber tubes around steel wheels but in next instant one can find rubber tube tyres. Another mistake which exactly is not a visual mistake but a loophole left by director is not showing how Aamir Khan robs the last bank. Finale which is again a loophole left by director when Aamir Khan escapes last time from the clutches of super cops Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, how both the cops reach to the same spot where they can easily apprehend the culprit Aamir Khan. May be an editing’s necessity done intentionally.
As far as performances are concerned, Aamir Khan proves himself to be an over doer with D3. His Zoolander look is funny. Katrina Kaif seems chubby. Yes, if she is performing the role of an aerobic dancer then with this weight and extra skin she is chubby. Abhishek Bachchan is ok. Uday Chopra gives some lighter moments. Australian actress Tabrett Bethell is an excess baggage, nothing has demanded or expected from her. Jackie Shroff is in cameo role. On the whole Dhoom3 is an average presentation which fails to have any impact in pre-interval part but slightly better in post interval portion due to borrowed twist of the story. With the star power of Aamir Khan and extensive marketing this “adventure†is expected to bring desired results for producer and distributors on box office.
