Varun Tej starrer VT14 gets titled Matka

Earlier this year, we had reported that Varun Tej will be joining forces with director Karuna Kumar of Palasa fame for his 14th movie. While the details of the film were being kept under wraps including the title, now the makers of the same have unveiled the title as well as the cast and crew. The movie, which was being referred to as VT14, has been titled Matka and a grand launch was held to reveal the details about the movie in Hyderabad on July 27.

A source close to the film opened up about the movie and said, “VT14 is titled interestingly as Matka and the title poster is designed as per the same. The word Matka is a form of gambling. The story is set in a different time period, which is between 1958-1982 and also, it is based on a real incident that shook the entire nation. Set in the backdrop of Vizag, the story spans 24 years. As the story progresses from 1958 to 1982, we are going to see Varun Tej in four different get-ups. The actor will undergo a complete makeover for the looks in the film.”

 

On Thursday, the entire team of the film decided to unveil a few key details of the film and talking about the launch, the source added, “Suresh Babu and the film’s producers handed over the script to the director to start the proceedings. Director Maruthi switched on the camera for the muhurtham shot, whereas, mega producer Allu Aravind sounded the clapboard. Dil Raju did the honorary direction and Harish Shankar launched the title poster.”

 

 

Speaking about the rest of the cast, Nora Fatehi and Meenakshi Choudhary are roped in to play opposite Varun Tej and the makers have also included special song in the movie featuring Nora, who is making her Tollywood debut with this Karuna Kumar directorial. Other members of the cast like Naveen Chandra, Kannada Kishore, Ajay Ghosh, Mime Gopi, Roopalakshmi, Vijayrama Raju, Jagadeesh, and Raj Thirandas are expected to play pivotal roles too.

 

Mounted on a massive scale, a huge vintage set depicting Vizag in the 60s is expected to be be constructed for the movie. We hear that the team, including the production designer Ashish Teja and the art director Suresh, are taking special extra care to get the milieu and the feel of the 60s.

 

Speaking of the rest of the team, GV Prakash Kumar will be composing the music, while Priyaseth will handle the cinematography. Karthika Srinivas R has been roped in as the editor. Matka is said to have a universal appeal and will be made at a Pan India level. Produced by Mohan Cherukuri (CVM) and Dr Vijender Reddy Teegala of Vyra Entertainments, this will be the first Pan India project of Varun Tej and will release in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages.
