Suriya reveals Jyotika is the reason behind him relocating to Mumbai; says, “She's spending time with her parents after 27 years”

While it is a known fact that Suriya has been born and raised in Tamil Nadu, very few are aware that his wife Jyotika hails from Mumbai. Although the actress explored South cinema as a part of her career, she has spent her childhood and college days in the city of dreams. Now after 27 years, the actress has decided to relocate to the city with her husband Suriya and their children. Opening up about the sudden shift, Suriya stated that they believed that this is the right time to move as he wanted his wife to reconnect with her older life.

Speaking of the immense sacrifices his wife made for the past almost three decades, Suriya stressed on the need for her to reconnect with her life and family, which are here in Mumbai. “I can be very open. At the age of 18-19, she shifted to Chennai. Almost 27 years, she was in Chennai and spent only 18 years in Mumbai. She was with me, my family. She gave up her career, friends, relatives and her Bandra lifestyle. Everything was given up, and she was in Chennai," Suriya told The Hollywood Reporter.

 

He went on to add, “She's happy spending time with her parents after 27 years. Whatever a man needs, a woman also needs that.” The Tamil superstar insisted that he wanted to give all of it to his beloved wife. “I think I'm a late bloomer. She needs those vacations, her friends and financial independence. She needs respect, her gym time and me time. Whatever we [men] crave for, she needs them too. Why take away her time from her parents, her lifestyle and what she loves to do. When are we going to do that change? Why is it always me? This is the thought behind the move”.

 

He further shared, “My kids were a part of IB school and there were only one or two schools in Chennai. It's a blessing that my kids are studying well, and they want to excel and get good at it. We saw some good opportunities here. So, we shifted here”. Speaking about his lifestyle changes, Suriya insisted that he enjoys doing daddy duties with his children here, where he takes them for ice cream, for a long drive, and even to football practices. He also asserted that he likes to shuttle between the two cities by taking a 10 day off where he switches off everything to reconnect with his family there.

 

For the unversed, Jyotika made her Bollywood debut in 1998 with Doli Saja Ke Rakhna alongside Akshaye Khanna and later made her Tamil debut with the Ajith Kumar starrer Vaali in 1999, and also had another release Poovellam Kettupaar in the same year. Almost 26 years later, the actress returned to Hindi Cinema with Ajay Devgn starrer Shaitaan and also played a key role in the Rajkummar Rao starrer Srikanth.
