South actor Sarath Babu passes away at the age of 71
Sarath Babu, popularly known for working with some of the biggest superstars in the South industry including Nagarjuna, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, passed away on May 22 at the age of 71. The actor, known for working in Tamil and Telugu industry, was admitted to the hospital in Hyderabad for a treatment for his multi-organ damage earlier this month. While the actor was in a recouping stage, he passed away on Monday.
Sarath Babu was admitted to the AIG Hospital in Hyderabad earlier this month and his condition was expected to be quite critical. On May 3, as the doctors were treating the actor, rumours started circulating about his demise. As the reports became viral on social media, many celebrities and industry insiders, who have worked with him in the past, started sharing their condolence messages. However, family of Sarath Babu ended the rumours and speculations by asserting that the actor is alive and in the recouping stage. In the past, Sarath Babu was also admitted in Chennai owing to his ill health in March this year.
Born in a Telugu family as Sathyam Babu Dixithulu, Sarath Babu has worked in over 200 films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and even in some Malayalam films. He made his debut in the Telugu industry in 1973 but went on to garner fame with the Kamal Haasan, K Balanchander film Nizhal Nijamigiradhu (Tamil) in 1978. In Telugu, he last appeared in the remake of Pink, Vakeel Saab starring Pawan Kalyan in 2021 whereas in Tamil, he was last seen in the Bobby Simha, Kashmira Pardeshi film Vasantha Mullai which released in February 2023.
