Tom Cruise takes on underwater stunts, high-flying biplanes in the first trailer of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, watch

Tom Cruise’s iconic spy franchise, Mission: Impossible, is set to conclude with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The highly anticipated film, which was originally slated for 2022 but faced delays due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike, is now scheduled for a May 23, 2025, release.

Cruise revealed the film’s title and a thrilling first trailer on Monday morning, accompanied by the caption, “Every choice has led to this.” The trailer offers a glimpse into the high-octane action sequences that have become synonymous with the franchise. It showcases Cruise’s daredevil stunts, including a breathtaking scuba dive into a sunken submarine and a heart-stopping fall from a biplane. The trailer also confirms the return of Angela Bassett as CIA Director Erika Sloane, adding another layer of intrigue to the already complex narrative.

 

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, the previous installment, introduced a formidable new villain, the AI program known as The Entity. Ethan Hunt and his team found themselves in a race against time to prevent The Entity from falling into the wrong hands. The film concluded with a thrilling train crash, setting the stage for the upcoming sequel.

 

 

 

 

The Final Reckoning promises to continue the high-stakes adventure, with Ethan Hunt facing off against Gabriel, played by Esai Morales. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes returning favourites like Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, and newcomers such as Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman, and Tramell Tillman.

 

Christopher McQuarrie, the mastermind behind the last three Mission: Impossible films, returns as director and co-writer. McQuarrie, along with Bruce Geller and Erik Jendresen, penned the script for The Final Reckoning.
