Timothée Chalamet shines as Fremen Prophet in first trailer for Dune: Part Two

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Denis Villeneuve debuted the first trailer for his upcoming sci-fi epic sequel, Dune: Part Two, alongside lead stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya at CinemaCon Tuesday.

“In the first movie Paul Atredis is a student…we really see Paul Atreides become a leader here,” Chalamet said at CinemaCon on Tuesday as shared by Variety. And with that newfound power comes the thrill of riding the massive sandworms that populate the remote planet where “Dune” takes place.

 

Denis Villeneuve is returning to direct the epic sequel which also brings back Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem along with newcomers Austin Butler and Florence Pugh. Villeneuve reportedly shot the entire film with IMAX cameras. He also said he built new sets in order “to avoid repetition. We went to all new locations…everything is new in the film.

 

This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

 

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the two-part film is based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Set in the far future, Dune: Part 1 concludes with Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides, the series' central Messianic figure, seeking refuge from enemies in the desert. Dune: Part 2 will follow his efforts to exact vengeance on the noble families who assassinated his father, Duke Leto Atreides, and reclaim power.

 

Produced by Legendary and Warner Bros., the blockbuster sequel is set to hit theaters on November 3, 2023.
