Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren to star in Broadway production of The Last Five Years
Singer-actor Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren are set to collaborate for the first-ever Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown’s critically acclaimed musical, The Last Five Years. This marks a significant milestone for the beloved musical, which first premiered at Chicago’s Northlight Theatre in 2001. Since then, it has enjoyed a successful Off-Broadway run and inspired a 2014 film adaptation starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.
According to a report in Variety, in this new Broadway production, Jonas will take on the role of Jamie, an ambitious young author. Warren will portray Cathy, an aspiring actress. The narrative of The Last Five Years explores the couple’s relationship, depicting its rise and fall over five years. The musical presents Jamie’s perspective in chronological order, while Cathy’s story unfolds in reverse.
Jonas is no stranger to Broadway. He made his mark on the Great White Way with his role in the 2012 revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. More recently, he enjoyed a successful residency with the Jonas Brothers in 2023.
Adrienne Warren, a powerhouse performer, won a Tony Award for her electrifying portrayal of Tina Turner in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. Her dynamic stage presence and compelling performances have also earned her a Tony nomination for her supporting role in Shuffle Along.
Jason Robert Brown, the man behind The Last Five Years, is a Tony Award-winning composer and playwright known for his work on Parade and The Bridges of Madison County.
Whitney White will direct the Broadway premiere. White, who recently helmed the acclaimed production of Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, is known for her innovative and insightful directorial style.
The Last Five Years is set to open on Broadway in the spring of 2025.
