Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker: Folie à Deux wraps production; see behind the scenes photos

Joker: Folie à Deux – which had been filming in the New York City for the past few weeks – has officially wrapped up filming, as announced by director Todd Philips by sharing a few photos from the set of the sequel. Joker 2 began principal photography in December 2022, six months after Phillips confirmed that the sequel is moving forward.

“That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together,” he captioned the post. The two pictures shared by the director feature Phoenix and Lady Gaga who will make her debut as Harley Quinn in the hotly anticipated sequel.

 

 

 

Lady Gaga also shared her look as Harley Quinn on Instagram. “That’s a wrap ❤️‍???? ???????? X, Harleen,” she wrote. Phillips directed and co-wrote Joker: Folie a Deux with Scott Silver. In English, the phrase “Folie à deux” translates to “shared psychosis,” and refers to a psychiatric syndrome involving delusions being transmitted between two people.

 

Along with Gaga and the return of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, Zazie Beetz will be reprising her role of Sophie while Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey have all joined the cast in undisclosed roles.

 

The sequel is said to be made as a musical. The original film Joker ended up winning two Oscars the year it was released, Best Actor of Phoenix’s performance as the eponymous Clown Prince of Crime, and Best Original Score. In all, Joker received 11 Oscar nominations.

 

The film will hit the theatres on October 4, 2024.
