Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK reveal that they wanted to approach Aamir Khan for one of their projects; say, “We couldn't even get to him”

Known for their unconventional films, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK have left a massive impact with their out-of-box web shows in the OTT space. After the stupendous success of The Family Fan and Farzi, the director duo are now winning hearts after presenting 90s nostalgia wrapped in their recently released show Guns and Gulaabs. The Netflix show boasts of an ensemble cast of Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah, among others. While the duo have worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, Raj and Krishna recalled their earlier days, when they couldn’t event get through to Aamir Khan for one of their projects.

In a recent interview with YouTuber Sucharita Tyagi, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK opened up about their project titled 99 and how they wanted Aamir Khan to star in it. “We wrote 99 and went to Aamir Khan first.” He further opened up about how the project didn’t pan out because they were not known enough. “It’s always like that - when you write something, and think of an ideal scenario (where you approach actors and they agree) but people are like, ‘Who are you? Where are you from?’” He also clarified that he couldn’t approach Khan adding, “I don't think we went to him. More like, we couldn't even get to him. We didn't have access,” added Raj.

 

In the same interview, Raj and Krishna DK also recalled the time they approached Saif Ali Khan for their hit film Go Goa Gone and how despite being a mainstream star, the actor immediately agreed to do it. “Saif was, at that time, a hero of the whole rom-com (genre), right. Him saying yes to Boris, to go ahead with that strange hair, he just bought into that. He thought it was silliness, but a thoughtful kind of silliness. So he just said, ‘Let’s do it,'” added the filmmakers. The director duo also said that they love to constantly surprise themselves when it comes to creating content because they would prefer not repeating their success trick. They also believe that there is no fixed formula for success in the entertainment industry.

 

Guns and Gulaabs features four parallel story tracks as it traces the life of Rajkummar Rao as Paana Tipu, Gulshan Devaiaha as Chaar Cut Atmaram, Adarsh Gourav as Chotu Ganchi, and Dulquer Salmaan as cop Arjun Varma. The show premiered on August 18 on Netflix.
