Breaking the Habit: Determination and Self-Control
In his late 20s, after a decade of smoking, Kohli decided to make a change. He describes the initial process as challenging, employing strategies like holding an unlit cigarette to combat cravings. "I just woke up one morning and said that I have to stop," Kohli shared. "It was very hard... I started realizing how strong of an addiction I had to tobacco.
Physical Challenges and the Importance of Long-Term Commitment
Kohli also discussed the physical discomfort he experienced during withdrawal, including digestive issues. However, his strong willpower prevailed. "I am quite strong headed," he stated. "If I make a decision, I stick to it." Setting a clear goal of quitting for a year further fueled his motivation.
A Relapse and a Renewed Commitment to a Smoke-Free Life
Years later, Kohli briefly relapsed while portraying a role that required him to smoke. However, this experience solidified his resolve to remain smoke-free. "The second time I quit was for forever," he declared. He explained the long-term benefits of quitting, including improved health, better sleep, and clearer thinking.
A Message of Hope for Smokers
He highlights the importance of self-belief, perseverance, and developing healthy coping mechanisms to manage cravings. Having successfully quit over a decade ago, Kohli concludes with a message of hope: "I feel so happy that I don't feel that craving anymore."
